Thousands of Mobula munkiana migrate south, creating massive fevers in crystal-blue water swimming in unison, breaching together in synchrony. Diving with a Whale shark is one of the most magical experiences you can have 🥹 This gentle giant showed up on one of my dives at Sail rock a couple of weeks ago. Only a couple of minutes into the dive I looked up and spotted this beautiful creature swimming very close to the surface. Nothing compares to the feeling of seeing this creature completely naturally in the wild! A lot of people come to Koh Tao expecting some kind of whale shark tour which is just not possible here since all encounters here are wild. Many places will feed whale sharks to sell tours, disrupting their natural behavior and making them: - More at risk of boat strike - Reliant on humans - Have increased risk of disease transmission - Stressed due to crowding and touching - Have nutritional imbalance - Disrupts the ecosystem - Prioritizes tourism over animal welfare If anywhere 100% guarantees you a sighting, that is often a red flag and a sign that they are being fed. Please do not support these operators! What can you do instead? 1. Do your research, there are many places where whale sharks encounters in the wild ARE ethical such as the Ningaloo reef in Western Australia. 2. Don’t pick an operator for the price, pick them for their values. 3.
