We need to set division aside and focus on strengthening American policies and infrastructure- divisiveness only brings opportunity for our near-peer adversaries, and threatens the freedom-based hegemony of American idealism. We have to come together as a community on this. There cannot be this level of divisiveness inside our beauty community and this is very much a call to action to band together and ask for @yslbeauty to be more transparent, and ALL BRANDS TO BE MORE TRANSPARENT, when these situations happen. What you thought is true. Mayor Chow prioritizes votes over her citizens.   This is a SAFETY RISK to ALL groups regardless of religion, ethnicity, affiliations, etc.  On November 12th, a group of people from multiple religions and backgrounds brought a petition to City Hall peacefully with concerns about hate, not choosing sides in foreign wars and about the raising of the Palestinian Flag.   Toronto City Councillor Dianne Saxe commented on hate and divisiveness in the city and not choosing sides in foreign wars,  “The mayor knows how I feel about this we’ve spoken many times but she's counting votes…and it’s her assessment that the Jewish community is pro-Israel is now outnumbered and lost the public relations battle, there’s a lot of anger…and what I was told is that she's specifically negotiated with the Muslim association to do this (Palestinian flag raising), it wasn’t accidental.”   So…if you thought Olivia was choosing sides and puts popularity over morality, you are RIGHT! What other community in Toronto will have their safety jeopardized for her own personal gain?   Olivia this is you enabling hate and crime in public, in our universities and in our streets (including private neighbourhoods). No Torontonian should accept this from the mayor, regardless of where you stand on any issue. Are you noticing the sense of divisiveness growing recently? Maybe it’s because I’m spending more time online than I ever used to with algorithms which are primed to keep us hostile, baited and clicking. But it does seems to be spilling over into real life as well. Union Jack flags have gone up in my local community. To many people I know, our country’s flag symbolises patriotism and community pride. To many others I know, the timing of the flag raising is symbolic of a message that shouts ‘only certain people belong here’. The raising of them reminded me of visiting Northern Ireland in the late 1990s and seeing the Tricolour or the Union Jack demarcating neighbourhoods as don’t go areas depending on how you identified. I don’t have an answer but I am trying to keep clinging to that phrase from the MP Jo Cox (@jocoxfoundation) : ‘We have more in common than that which divides us’.
