Amicable Divorce …. Divorce is hard no matter what. To have an amicable divorce and do it respectfully while you have kids takes a certain personality and character set of people. Did we agree on everything - of course not. Did we listen to each other and compromise - yes. There are still the same emotions of hurt, heartbreak, shame of divorce/failure, guilt, sadness and grief. But there are NOT moments of decisions made out of spite or to get back at someone. Focus on the kids needs first and how that looks for the adults. I think it can be confusing for those outside of a decision we made to fully understand. We didn’t wake up one morning and impulsively decide this. This happened over two years of work and multiple modalities of therapy. You could say we are breaking generational cycles. Marriage may not be forever and that is okay. It’s hard. It’s brave. It’s transformative. We both are different people because of this. #newseason #divorce #amicabledivorce #divorceishard #chooseyourhard #divorcedmom #brave

People imagine breakups as shouting and slammed doors. But when a marriage is truly over, it’s often the opposite, just silence. Because the grieving started long before 🙌 #divorce #marriage #breakups #relationship #dating

boy can you learn a lot from a divorce! So many thing to do differently in the next. BUT I mostly learned that marriage is a true gift! there are no perfect marriages. it’s a constant work but it’s a work worth working for. I did many things wrong in my first marriage but I also learned a lot from it. And things I try to do better in my marriage with Tyler because we love each other and want to have the best marriage we can. 1: it’s okay to argue in front of your kids BUT they also need to see you makeup and see how to resolve issues together as a team. Healthy confrontation is okay. (Healthy is the key word there) having disagreements is normal and it’s okay. Nobody will ever always agree or think the same. 2: affection matters! Yall— physical touch is HUGE. We are always hugging and kissing in front of our kids. We want our girls to know that hugging and touching is something God created. It also is a big bonus when you have affection outside the bedroom because it carries into the bedroom later. 3: date your spouse. Marriage is more than raising kids together, paying bills and sharing a house together. It’s a friendship. You have to build and keep a relationship outside of daily stresses and routines. 4: don’t starve your spouse of what they need. I’m talking sexual, but also talking alone time, words of affirmation etc. whatever their love language is or what their need is, don’t deprive them of it, help them and support them through it. Marriage has to be selfless and giving them what they need is part of it. 5: communicate AND listen. It’s not always about getting your point across. It’s also about hearing their side and understanding where they are coming from and why. DONT GO TO BED UPSET WITH EACH OTHER. A successful marriage is not about a big house or nice cars. A successful marriage requires complete honestly and total commitment and a selfless love with Christ as the center. Be quick to forgive and quick to move on. Also need to note, this is an ongoing, constant, every day effort and I fail daily. But keep trying and you’ll see a reward in your marriage. • • #marriage #divorce #marriageadvice #happymarriage
