Some household ingredients are commonly used as natural insect deterrents. Peppermint oil has a strong scent that spiders and other insects tend to avoid, making it popular for doorways and corners. Cinnamon is often used to discourage ants because its smell can disrupt their scent trails. A mixture of baking soda and sugar is sometimes used for cockroaches — sugar attracts them, while baking soda can be harmful when ingested. Vinegar is frequently used to deter ants and fruit flies due to its strong odor. Citrus peels are also known to repel certain insects. These methods aren’t instant exterminators, but they may help reduce insect activity when used consistently. For infestations, professional pest control may be needed. Peppermint oil is a natural spider repellent Spiders hate the strong scent of peppermint oil because it overwhelms their sensory receptors. To use it, add a few drops to your duster or mix 10–15 drops of peppermint essential oil with water in a spray bottle and spray around windowsills, doorframes, and any gaps where spiders might sneak in. It’s spider season! 😩 👀🕷️So like/save these tricks for later to keep spiders (and other insects) out of our homes! 🕷️They enter your home for warmth at this time of year so these are tips to help persuade them to go elsewhere - they’re not only easy to do but they also make my home smell amazing! 1. Add 5-10 drops of peppermint or tea tree oil to 240ml or 1 cup of water in a spray bottle and spray around your windows and doors to repel the spiders - they dislike the smell of both of these oils! Remember to like this post if you learnt anything, save it to refer back to and share/send if you think others will appreciate it too ❤️ 2. Place cinnamon sticks around your home - spiders also dislike the smell of cinnamon so I was quick to pop one on my bedside table! You can also do this with conkers but I chose not to do this one as it would be dangerous for my toddler! 3. Add the recommended dose of orange oil to the water for your particular mop with a squirt of dishwashing liquid. I use a Vileda spray mop so I added 15-20 drops - again spider AND insects dislike this scent but for us it’s not too over powering like peppermint and tea tree so it’s perfect for larger surfaces like your floors! 🍊 . As always please do your research when using essential oils if you have pets as not all can be used ❤️ . #lifehacks #homehacks #cleaninghacks

This is how I get rid of ants 🐜 and spiders 🕷. Don't reach for the chemical-laden bug spray and store-bought insect repellents, because there’s a natural solution you can try—peppermint. Insects hate peppermint. If you have spiders, ants, mosquitoes and other bugs around your home, try using peppermint oil. The scent may also help keep mice away. I purchased this peppermint oil from Amazon.com. #nontoxic #peppermint #daycare #childcare #preschool #ant #spider #insect #mice #pestcontrol #naturalproducts #infant #toddler #momlife #playroom #playground #safety #safetyfirst #repellent #teachersofinstagram #school #classroom #teacher #teacherlife #essentialoils #sandiego #sandiegolife #camping #picnic #nature
