*trigger warning* off leash dog attack As you can hear this is the second time this guy lets his aggressive dog off leash when it has no training and he has no control over it. This is the second time it has run across the entire length of the park to come try to dominate the wrong dogs. In the heat of the moment it is not advisable to put yourself in between an actual fight. Using a slip leash would be most effective. Luckily my dogs have good enough control to recall even out of this situation. Personally I never want my dogs to feel like they can't defend themselves if it came down to it. As you guys may have seen in the previous encounter with this dog they did not care at all. This time he ran up very postured and immediately starting to grow while he intrudes on our space. Normally if it's an accident or a mistake or the owner honestly messed up I will let it go. However this guy didn't apologize, walked away when I asked him why he keeps letting his dog off leash when he can't control it and tried to blame my dogs when his dog ran across the entire park while he was chasing after it. He literally said "I don't care" over and over.. Given this is the second documented case I most likely will have to report this to animal control so that no other owner has to worry about their pup in this situation.

Ever noticed your dog’s fur stand up along their back? That’s called piloerection, or “raised hackles.” It’s an involuntary reaction, kind of like goosebumps in humans. Hackles don’t automatically mean aggression. They simply show arousal of some kind: fear, excitement, uncertainty, or even frustration. To understand what your dog is feeling, look at their whole body language—tail, face, posture, and movement—as well as the context of what’s going on in the environment. That will help you assess if you need to step in or not. When have you seen your dog’s hackles go up? Also may Lola go down in history as having the most epic hackles of all time 😎 That’s my girl!!! #DogBodyLanguage #DogTrainingTips #ReactiveDog #DogBehavior #PositiveReinforcement

‼️All raised hackles mean aggression‼️ • • • ❌WRONG❌ Raised hackles simply tell us that a dog is emotionally aroused. That arousal can come from many different feelings, such as: 👉🏽Excitement or anticipation: A dog might raise its hackles when seeing a playmate or something new and stimulating. 👉🏽Fear or anxiety: A nervous dog may show hackles as their body reacts to stress. 👉🏽Uncertainty or alertness: When a dog is assessing a situation, hackles may rise as part of their heightened awareness. 👉🏽Defensiveness or aggression: Yes, sometimes raised hackles do accompany aggression-but they aren’t a guarantee of it. BUT… ➡️Context Is Key Hackles are just one piece of the puzzle. To understand what a dog is really feeling, we need to look at their entire body language: 👉🏽Is the body loose and wiggly, or stiff and rigid? 👉🏽Is the tail wagging softly, or is it high and still? 👉🏽Are the ears relaxed, forward, or pinned back? 👉🏽Is the dog vocalizing-whining, growling, barking? ✅ When you take the whole picture into account, raised hackles become a helpful clue instead of a misunderstood “red flag.” • • • ⚠️Why does this matter?⚠️ ➡️Misinterpreting hackles can lead to unnecessary fear or even unfair punishment for dogs. By understanding that hackles don’t automatically equal aggression, we give our dogs more space to communicate and ourselves more confidence in responding calmly. ✅ Bottom line 👉🏽 raised hackles mean arousal, not aggression. The key is reading the full body language and the situation before jumping to conclusions. #dogtrainer #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram #dogs #dog #denverdogs #denver #puppy #dogowners #colorado #dogbodylanguage #bodylanguage #dogownerproblems #dogownersofinstagram #dogtalk #dogtrainingtips #dogownertips #lab #labradorretriever #labrador #labradorsofinsta #hackles

❎ This is a classic example of what can happen when you let your friendly dog run up to strange dogs. 🤷♀️ . ✳️ This owner had a 'Hey!' moment of minor shock/outrage. I said Sorry! as I passed him, even though I don't think Finn did anything wrong. . ❇️ Why? Because it's polite. It acknowledges this guy was a bit surprised, worried. Plus I WAS sorry - this wasn't fun for either dog. Telling this guy his dog was at fault would just be confrontational. He probably didn't see *why* Finn corrected his dog & didn't have the benefit of slow motion replay. He might not understand enough about dog communication to know his dog was being rude by not greeting Finn first, or running in too hard. And it's not my place to lecture random strangers on dog behaviour. . ✅ Finn's raised hackles are due to shock/surprise - imagine a stranger ran up to you & suddenly grabbed your genitals (even for dogs that's rude!) but some people see hackles & only think 'aggression' 🤷♀️ . ❎ Finn passed several dogs after this that he chose to avoid, as well as a couple he did greet. He obviously didn't want a lot of dog interactions this day - but if a dog runs up like this it's hard to avoid. So just be aware that 1) friendly ≠ polite and 2) if your friendly but impolite dog runs up to strange dogs they may not be well received. . . . . . . #dogcorrections #dogbehavior #dogbodylanguage #dogcommunication #doggreetings #dogtolerant #dogselective #faafo #redheeler #heelersofinstagram #cattledogsofinstagram #heeler #australiancattledog #cattledog #offleashbeach #offleash #friendlydog #dogtrainingtips #offleashdogs

HACKLES The most common interpretation of hackles going up on a dog is aggression. Hackles mean the hair between the shoulder blades down the back and through the base of the tail that can stand on up like goosebumps due to different forms of stimulation. Nervousness can trigger it, dominance can trigger it, surprise can trigger it, and play can trigger it. To understand the meaning in your dog you don't have to guess, just look what happens in the moment following the hair standing up. If your dogs hackles go up and aggression follows that's the meaning for your dog - at least in the situation that triggered it. Blue is an emotional type dog and easily get stimulated from a variety of reasons and her hackles are constantly going up. This post was inspired by a greeting of another dog and her hair was standing straight up shoulders to tail. It was a mix of excitement and dominance and I just waited about 30 to 40 seconds for it to settle down and then we greeted the dog. I consider hackles an early warning indicator that tell me how the dog feels and I just looked to see how the dog acts so I know what it means for your dog. Stimulation is an energy behind many reactions and unwanted behaviors. Waiting for your dog to settle helps the stimulation pass. Redirecting the energy away can be helpful and in rare cases a correction is needed because it is the first indication that aggression is about to happen and I want to snap the dog out of it Leave questions below

Hackles up, tail circled and that walk, he’s stimulated… not what I was expecting on this trip! Life has given me lemons but I don’t want to make lemonade right now 😟 Dang 😳 Either I stress about it or just let him take care of the situation and just wait and watch to see what happens 🤔 . . . . . . . . . #gsd #gsdlife #gsdnation #gsddaily #gsddog #gsddogs #gsdofinstagram #germanshepherdpuppy #germanshepherd #germanshepherdsofinstagram #germanshepherddog #germanshepherdofig #dog #dogoftheday #doglife #dogsofinstagram #dogs #dogslife #dogscorner #dogsofinstaworld #dogstagram #doggo #doggos #doggie #dogs_of_instagram #dogs_of_world #dogsworld #mydog #instadogs #igdogs
