‘Lords of Dogtown’ (2005) During a drought in 1970s Southern California, an unexpected moment occurs as people empty their swimming pools and a group of teen surfers from the Dogtown area of Venice Beach move in with skateboards, giving birth to the Z-Boys skate team and the rise of the sport in the area. Several of the real-life Z-Boys made cameos in the film, including Tony Alva, Jay Adams, and Stacy Peralta. The real Skip Engblom, portrayed by Heath Ledger, appears in the movie as a race starter at the Seattle event. Ledger even wore actual clothing belonging to Engblom to get more in-depth with his character. Actors Emile Hirsch, Victor Rasuk, and John Robinson trained for months to be able to perform their own skateboarding stunts.
