Your present pain of how your partner hurt you increases if your partner and you cannot make contact and agree to the pain. If you are stuck in details of the story and that overrides the emotional hurt your relationship will end. If you are stuck in the other partner needing to have their story validated then you are in the double bind and your relationship will end. If you go to bed at night having to package together a place to put the validation that you need anywhere other than your partner’s eyes, your relationship will end. Most couples that come to see me are 6 months too late and it is much harder.
