This is Iowa’s wildest side including endless forests, riverways, state parks, a national park & gorgeous small towns. Day 1️⃣ in Iowa’s Driftless Area includes the best- known places to see fall colors based near 📍McGregor, Iowa These are the places you MUST-See: 1️⃣ Pikes Peak State Park 2️⃣ Effigy Mounds National Monument 3️⃣ Backbone State Park 4️⃣ Yellow River State Park 😴And don’t forget the lodging! This area does not have many hotels. But AirBnBs are a great idea to support locals! 💕This one is our FAVE! How did I sleep on Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park for so long? 🤦‍♀️ Most people go to visit the caves and completely miss the above ground hiking trails. Imagine towering limestone bluffs (iconic for the Driftless Region), crystal blue spring fed streams, wildflower, and probably sharing the trails with a few horses. Don’t miss the 1-mile loop Palisade Trail for stunning views of the bluffs. Thanks to @shantastic.life for suggesting this hike! Note that parking for this trail can be found at the Palisade Trailhead Parking lot. Cell service is limited so I recommend downloading the offline map before visiting this park.
