4️⃣ things to do in Durness, Scotland🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 1️⃣ Hike to Faraid Head - see the striking cliffs and Faraid Head Point. It about a 2 hour easy hike round trip and well worth the views. Beware it gets really windy up there!💨 2️⃣ Visit Smoo Cave - they are still actively working on discovering the 4th chamber of this cave every winter, and during the summer season they run tours by boat of the chambers that have already been discovered. It’s very engaging and informative, and it only costs £10 (cash only) for the 20 minute tour!⛏️ 3️⃣ Explore Balnakeil Beach and its protected sand dunes - you will hike through the heart of the dunes on the way to Faraid Head. DAY 3 NC500 - Tongue to Durness. With a morning visit to @norsebakehouse to start the morning. This place seemed class for a munch even though we only had coffees. After that on to an apparent graffiti'd house in the middle of nowhere. Then on too smoo cave where I thought I was about to die.

Here’s the route we took for our Scotland road trip, covering part of the NC500 and beyond! A lot of people recommend doing the NC500 anti- clockwise, but after keeping a close eye on the weather forecast, we chose to head clockwise and honestly, it couldn’t have worked out better. The first half of the week brought moody skies and spells of rain, but it completely added to the atmosphere. We explored the dramatic mountains of Glencoe shrouded in mist, wandered through the cobbled streets of Edinburgh, and watched the Jacobite Steam Train crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct and it all felt like stepping into a real-life Harry Potter film. As we made our way north, the weather turned. The skies opened up into pure blue, and Scotland’s wild beauty absolutely shone. Reaching places like Arisaig Beach and then on to Durness was just incredible - white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and barely a soul around. It honestly felt like we had discovered a hidden paradise at the very top of the world. By the end of the week, the roads were near enough empty that it felt like we had the Highlands to ourselves. Every twist and turn brought another postcard perfect view. We feel so lucky with how the trip worked out… if you’re thinking about doing a Scotland road trip, don’t hesitate.
