Choose the Right Cherry Variety There are two main types of cherry trees: Sweet Cherries (Prunus avium) – Need cross-pollination (require two trees). Best for fresh eating. Sour Cherries (Prunus cerasus) – Self-pollinating (one tree is enough). Used for jams, baking, and preserves. ✅ Dwarf cherry trees are ideal for small backyards. --- 2. Select the Best Location Sunlight: At least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day. Soil: Well-draining, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0–7.0. Our backyard dwarf cherry Stella is 3 years old this year and gave us our first big-ish harvest of around 1.3kg cherries 🥰 She did get bit of a visit from the cherry aphids this year but we pulled through and she was established enough to make it through. update on the tree my husband planted for me in our backyard for Mother’s Day last year 🥰 tiny baby flowers have formed so far! it says it can take 3-5 years for this tree to fully develop & bloom during spring so i have to be patient 😮‍💨 i’ve fertilized it so far & have been watering it as needed! its so pretty 😍🌸💓
