When we’re fortunate enough to perform R&R operations on adjacent lots for the same owner or contractor, it can make a huge difference in efficiency and production. Instead of splitting the lot and working in tight phases, we’re able to mass excavate, get bottom on the entire pad, and utilize the neighboring lot for temporary dirt storage and site logistics. That extra space helps keep production moving, reduces handling of material, minimizes remobilization, and creates a much smoother operation overall. Proper planning and coordination in earthwork can save serious time and money on these projects. #Contractor #Excavation #GeneralEngineering #Earthwork @shoemakerindustries

Before You Touch The Controls, Watch The Ground Most people climb in and start moving dirt. Real operators read what's under them first. Soil tells you everything — how it'll load, where it'll slip, what's gonna fight back. Machine's just the tool. Ground's the teacher. #heavyequipment #equipmentoperator #earthwork #jobsite #operatorlife #constructionlife #grading #tradeslife #ifyouknow #realwork #sitework #heavymachinery

Ever had a customer ask you this question? I’ll admit, the longer I run an excavating business the more variables I discover in costs to run operate an excavating business. Frankly, I don’t know if you can charge enough 😂 Here are some of the things to consider when setting your pricing: (Also, I have an online community for excavating contractors where we talk about this stuff all the time, link is in my profile, come join us!) COST OF OWNERSHIP - This is probably the most black and white cost but significant nonetheless - This equipment is oftentimes hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase and thousands of dollars a year to maintain MOBILIZATION - Guess what, it isn’t cheap to move heavy equipment across town and often when someone is complaining about price, they’re not considering the time/risk it takes to get the equipment to their project FUEL - If you’re busy, this is a constant cost to keep your equipment running. Make sure you understand your consumption rates and properly calculate it into your equipment rates RISK AND RESPONSIBILITY - we take on so much risk and one of the biggest risk is the weather, reality is that it affects our work, whether it shuts us down or slows production, it has a cost. Make sure you account for that. - another risk is that we’re digging underground and guess what, even with borings and markings and any other preventative measures, we don’t know what we’re going to find, and when you do find something unexpected, it has a cost. So why are our prices so high? Because it’s not just 8 hours in a piece of equipment, it’s that plus all of the risk. Don’t be afraid to charge more.. it’s probably justifiable. If you ever need anything shoot me a DM, I love hearing from you all! #earthwork #dirtwork #excavating

How did this excavator go 9m deep? 😳 This is a real UGWT excavation where the excavator has to carefully enter a deep dig of around 9 meters. From outside it looks simple… but deep excavation access, movement, and execution at this level need serious planning on site. This is the real side of construction people usually never notice.
