Are you skipping your edge warm ups😬 you’re not the only one but I’m not gonna lie… it effects your skating! Why??? 1. Edges are the foundation of everything in skating! You want better jumps you need better edges, you want better spins, you need better edges, you want more speed you need better edges! List anything in your skating that could be improved and it can be helped by improving your edges! 2. Edges teach you body control and body alignment! Like I said before , this is not just for good edges! Body alignment and control relate to correct jumps and fast centered spins! 3. Edges allow you to move across the ice seamlessly! better edges allow more flow across the ice which make you a faster smooth skater and transfer that to competitive skating - that is extremely important to have smooth consistent skating throughout your routine! 4. Your edge warm up should probably or does reflect skills you are learning or are developing, neglecting 10-15 minutes of these edge drills/patterns will really impact your progress bc those drills are designed to develop those weaker areas which are potentially lacking in skills you are motivated to achieve like your jumps and spins! 5. Edges give you more confidence in your skating. Being more comfortable with your edges allows you to develop your body awareness and own sense of your own skating! This helps you improve bc when it comes to trusting your ability when going for harder and new elements - you can! Edges are so important and I know every skater wants to just get right to the “fun” stuff but there is no fun stuff without putting in the work and that starts with simply always spending 10-15minutes doing your edges at the beginning of practice! By all means spend as much time as you want on your edges but since I know it can be a struggle to get skaters to dedicate the time needed to their edging - enforcing 10-15minutes on edges I think is a good start:) Do you spend enough time on your edges?
