Yesterday was a very special day for me because we had students from Edlys Montessori School in North Legon visit our workshop here at Gold Coast Tokota. They came to learn about #sustainability, #craftsmanship and #innovation, and to see how we transform ocean bound waste like water sachet, denim discarded car tires into handcrafted sandals. Moments like this mean a lot to me personally. One of the reasons I started Gold Coast Tokota goes back to when I was a school kid. I remember a teacher asking our class a simple question: “What do you want to become in the future?” Some students said doctors, others said engineers, lawyers, pilots… but I don’t remember anyone saying they wanted to become a shoemaker. That moment stayed with me for years. It made me realize that many of us grow up without seeing craftsmanship and making things with our hands as a powerful career or opportunity. So today, seeing these students walk into this space, asking questions, touching the materials, and learning how shoes are made from recycled materials, feels like a dream coming true. If even one of them leaves here believing that innovation, sustainability, and craftsmanship can create a future, then we are doing something meaningful. This is what #GoldCoastTokota is really about.
