When your child misbehaves, avoid asking, “Why did you do that?!” It usually puts them on the defensive and rarely leads to a helpful explanation. Instead, focus on solving the problem. By calmly addressing what happened and involving your child in making things right, you’re encouraging accountability without the frustration. They’ll learn how to take responsibility without feeling judged. #RIE #MagdaGerber #RespectfulParenting #Educaring #GentleParenting #GentleParent #EducaringApproach #PositiveDiscipline #ConsciousParenting #PositiveDisciplineParenting #PositiveDisciplineTools

Watching toddlers play together can stir our adult instincts to intervene, especially when we see one child being more assertive with toys. Our first impulse is often to ensure "fairness" and protect the rights of the less assertive child. But when we pause and truly observe, something fascinating emerges. These interactions are rarely just about the toy itself. What looks like "toy-taking" to our adult eyes is often a toddler's emerging attempt at social connection. They're learning the complex dance of human relationships through a nuanced give and take in playing with a treasured toy. I’m without my kids this week and can’t tell you how much I miss taking care of them. Doing the things that often start to feel like chores or tasks - if we let them. This may be my favorite reel I have made. When I shared this a year ago it struck a chord with many of you, maybe because having a grandma still is very special - but hope it’s message is something that stays with you far after you watch it. Especially as we head into a new school year. When you’re caught up and treating the parenting journey like it’s a chore, remember this video. I know I need the reminder sometimes too. Being a parent is tiring and exhausting. We don’t get a break, we can all agree on that. One thing that we don’t realize is how we let this permeate through our energy and when our children can begin to feel it. We think our children are oblivious to it or won’t realize. We think we can hide it with an over enthusiastic, inauthentic tone, but the rushed hands, the facial expressions when we don’t think they can see, they can see and feel it. My grandmother hadn’t seen me in a year, this was a moment we got to have when she put that sweater on me, something she hasn’t done in decades. We have hundreds of those moments every single day, and so its only human that it can become “chore” like. So here’s a reminder, which I do every so often. Start the school year off right. Our children are not chores, they shouldn’t feel like they are burdens. When we handle them, let’s take more moments to convey: “I see you, you’re worthy of my time. Just you.”

Telling our child to “Say you’re sorry” often teaches them to see apologies as a way to avoid trouble, rather than a sincere expression of remorse or empathy. Instead, we can guide them by helping them “read the room” and recognize how their actions impacted others. This approach fosters genuine empathy and encourages a true sense of accountability. #RIE #MagdaGerber #RespectfulParenting #Educaring #GentleParenting #GentleParent #EducaringApproach #PositiveDiscipline #ConsciousParenting #PositiveDisciplineParenting #PositiveDisciplineTools

How should you react when your toddler hits you? 😰There are times when telling your child, “I am going to move over here to keep my body safe,” signals that they are crossing a boundary. However, when that approach doesn’t work and your child keeps hitting you or chases you, you need change tact. . The hitting and kicking may actually be a desperate and immature attempt to grab your attention. And when we tell them, “I need to move away to keep my body safe,” the hitting escalates and they panic more as they are frantic to hold onto your attention. Moreover, your child’s brain 🧠 is also flooded with emotions and they are incapable of reasoning or rationalizing in that moment. . ✨So when this happens, you need to intervene and remain present. Safely staying with your child when they feel out of control or scared of or overwhelmed by their own feelings signals to them that you are not scared of their big feelings. 💕It tells them that you are a safe and secure place for them to express those big feelings — but you will not allow them to hit you. . Once this storm has passed, you can come back and reflect with your child about what happened, “You felt upset and tried to hit me. I wouldn’t let you,” and talk through alternate ways to release those big feelings. ❤️ .
