Europe’s Entry/Exit System (EES) has been rolling out since
362,033

Europe’s Entry/Exit System (EES) has been rolling out since October 12, 2025 and is due to be fully operational on April 10, 2026 across the 29 European countries using the system. It records passport details, entry and exit dates, and biometric data like a facial image and/or fingerprints for short-stay non-EU travelers, including many UK, US, Canadian, and Australian visitors. The EU says it is meant to modernize border checks, but reports from airports and travel groups say some travelers are already facing long waits and missed connections during the rollout. What to do: - Add more connection time if you are entering Schengen as a non-EU traveler, especially this summer. - Expect your first EES registration to take longer because border staff may collect your photo and fingerprints. - Keep track of your 90 days in any 180-day period yourself. EES will now record entries and exits digitally. - If you can, choose less busy arrival times or airports to avoid the worst queues. - Keep your documents ready and do not plan a tight onward connection right after passport control. Save + share this with someone who needs it. (Source: Official EU Travel to Europe EES pages; The Guardian) #outboundvisa #europevisa #Schengen

Just flown into Ibiza and experienced the new EES system… so here’s exactly what happens 👇✈️ If you’re travelling to Europe soon, this is what to expect: 1️⃣ Head to the self-service kiosks when you arrive 2️⃣ Scan your passport 3️⃣ Follow the screen prompts 4️⃣ Have your photo taken 📸 5️⃣ If you’re 12+, you’ll also need to scan your fingerprints 👶 Children under 12 just do the photo (no fingerprints) Then you head over to border control where they may check everything over… 👉 and then scan your passport again at the eGate That’s it—but it definitely takes longer than the old passport stamp system ⏳ 💡 Top tip: allow extra time, especially if you’re travelling with kids or anyone who may feel overwhelmed by new processes- staff are there to help and some airports do have family lanes Save this so you know what to expect before you travel ✈️💛 Follow me for real-life, family-friendly travel tips (especially if you’re navigating travel with neurodiverse kids) #travel #neurodiverse #autism #holiday

🛂✈️ BIG TRAVEL NEWS – EES Launches in the Canary Islands! I’m here at Lanzarote Airport to show you exactly what’s happening with the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) — and what it means for anyone flying into Spain or the Canary Islands. The new EES system officially starts here on November 12, and I’ve been testing the machines, talking to police at passport control, and finding out how it will actually work in real life. ✅ What’s changing: Passport stamps are being replaced by a digital system that logs your entry and exit automatically. The EES collects facial and fingerprint scans for non-EU and non-Schengen travellers. Kids under 12 are exempt from fingerprinting. It’s part of a wider rollout across Europe — already live in some airports — but the Canary Islands are joining slightly later to avoid disruption. 🌍 What’s Schengen? The Schengen Area is a zone of 27 European countries that share open borders. The EES only applies when entering or leaving this zone — so if you’re coming from the UK or anywhere outside Schengen, it affects you. 👮‍♂️ What I found out at the airport: Police say the new process should only add seconds to each traveller once everyone gets used to it. It’s designed to improve security, tracking, and border efficiency for millions of visitors each year. 🧠 My tip: Don’t stress — the system is being rolled out gradually and staff are on hand to help. Just follow the prompts on the screen and keep your passport ready. 🎥 Watch the full video to see the machines in action and hear exactly what’s changing. #MrTravelON #TravelNews #CanaryIslands #EES #Lanzarote #PassportControl #TravelUpdate #EuropeTravel #Schengen #HolidayTips

2. The European Union's new entry-exit system (EES) for British passport holders and other non-EU nationals commenced on Sunday, 12 October. Travel correspondent, Simon Calder finds out how much time the process takes.

The new EES system at European airports will affect Brits travelling in, including children. ✈️ 🚄🌴☀️ We just arrived in Tenerife with Jet2 and this was our experience using the new EES passport system and rules for entering Europe. It was very easy to use. Simply scan your passport, the machine will take a digital photo of your face and then a four finger fingerprint scan. If approved, you will be granted access to the electronic / digital gates and should be able to go straight through. Anyone travelling with children under-12 will need to queue for the manual booth. Here, passports will be cross-checked and children will have a digital photo taken. Once approved, you can go through and collect your bags. We arrived with @jet2pics and lined up for 45 mins in total. However, airports vary. Our friends lined up for just over an hour here last week. My other friends (who did not have children with them) waited 90 minutes in Italy. So bring snacks and be prepared while the EES is being introduced. There will likely be teething problems. However, I do think once it’s in full swing, it will make the process faster and more efficient. Let me know how you get on! ✈️ #ees #europeentravel #passportruleseurope #europe #europeairport

☝️ Be prepared. This is Europe’s new Entry and Exit System (EES) that began October 12. It is being introduced gradually over the next 6 months in 29 European countries. 1️⃣ First, we flew into Rome, Italy (FCO), and here’s what happened when we landed: → There were machines along the way to passport control for non-EU citizens. We only saw 5 machines (one didn’t work) but then found out there were more further down. → The lines weren’t terrible, but it still was an additional line that took about 10-15 min. → The machine scanned our passport, asked several questions, took a photo, and took fingerprints. → Then a worker put a sticker on my passport, noting that mine was complete. My husband and many others did not get a sticker because the machines did not read the photos and/or fingerprints correctly. But they still let them all through. → Then we went through passport control like normal and still got a stamp in our passport. Overall, it wasn’t a terrible experience, but were a few hiccups and it took a few extra minutes. 2️⃣ Later, we flew into Amsterdam, Netherlands (AMS), and here’s what happened there: → Nothing. Apparently it hasn’t been rolled out there yet, so the procedure was the same as always. We went through the normal line and got a stamp in our passport. 😊 I think the process will probably be simple at most places. Just be prepared for something slightly different and to spend a little more time when you land. Be prepared when you pack too! 🧳 Get my free packing guide (links included). How does EES impact your flight home?! 🇬🇧 💾 SAVE THIS and share with someone who may be worried about this new border process! 🇪🇺 WHAT IS EES? 🇪🇺 EES stands for ‘Entry Exit System’ which is a new automated computer system that tracks when non-EU nationals (that includes us Brits) when go in and out of most of Europe. It’s set to replace stamps. It came in today - Sun 12th Oct - but there’s a 6 month gradual rollout. 🇪🇺 I WANT TO KNOW MORE! 🇪🇺 I’ve got 2 other videos so scroll back, or read my written guide. Search for ‘holiday expert EES’ and it will come up 🕵️‍♀️
✈️ WHERE AM I FLYING? ✈️ I flew from Tallinn to London Luton on Mon 13th Oct. ✈️ WHAT HAPPENED AT TALLINN AIRPORT? ✈️ I went through security as normal and went to border control. There was no queue but this was because my flight was delayed by 3 hours (more on this soon!) so people had a lot of time to go through. ✈️ IS THIS THE SAME FOR OTHER AIRPORTS? ✈️ Sadly not - someone told me at Luxembourg they had to queue an hour to pass these checks before boarding their flight home. We’ve also seen queues on each side at airports in Prague so definitely leave some extra time and go straight to border control to check out the situation. ⚠️ DON’T leave it to last minute ⚠️ ✈️ WHAT HAPPENED AT LONDON LUTON AIRPORT? ✈️ Nothing! All your EES checks are done before you board your flight. ✈️ WHAT’S A MANUAL EES CHECK? ✈️ It’s where you haven’t pre-registered any information at a kiosk and instead a border officer takes you through your EES checks including a face scan, fingerprints and some questions. ✈️ HOW WAS MY EXPERIENCE? ✈️ Quicker on the way back - only 2 mins instead of 4 - so it does show it gets sped up versus when you first register. However, it still feels quite slow and I can see how queues are forming elsewhere. 📣 LET ME KNOW… Would love to hear more about your experiences of using this so far, and if you haven’t had to at all! #ees #entryexitsystem #uktravel #europetravel
