When researching our trip, we‘ve heard all the horror stories about the ferries from Bali to Lombok, more specifically, the section Nusa Penida to Gili T. 🫣 As I‘m afraid of boats and open water, I was expecting the worst. But here‘s how it went ⬇️ - We took Bluewater Express one and Eka Jaya the other direction⛴️ - opt for the reliable, big boats, you‘ll feel the waves a bit less - go early in the day, we returned in the afternoon and it was definitely rockier than our trip in the morning 😮‍💨 - they distribute free sea sickness tablets (if u feel like you might need them, take a few) 💊 - while it was definitely rocky at some parts, it was nowhere near the videos and sketchy boats we‘ve seen online and it‘s definitely worth spending a few bucks more but feeling safe along the trip ⛴️ #ferry #indonesia #ferry #ekajaya #bluewaterexpress #baliferry #traveltips #bali #lombok #travelitinerary

If you don’t want to get stuck on a bad boat (think small, hot, and smelly) when you’re visiting the Gili Islands, you’ll want to save this. There are plenty of fast boats that go to the Gilis but after trying most of them over the past 11 years, the only one I go with is Eka Jaya, and here’s why... 🛥️ You can sit inside in air-con (that actually works - most of the time) and watch a movie, or on the roof deck in the sun (with/out a bintang) listening to music 🛥️ They have the biggest boats (so if you’re prone to sea sickness, that’s another plus) 🛥️ They run pretty close to time (also a huge plus in Indonesia) 🛥️ It’s the closest thing to an international standard I’ve experienced The trip takes around 2 - 2.5 hours (give or take how many people get on/off each island). Il viaggio in barca da Gili T a Bali è davvero così terribile? Partiamo dal presupposto che non tutti soffrono la barca e non tutti hanno paura, quindi quella che è la nostra opinione o di qualsiasi altra persona è molto personale. Noi abbiamo scelto di fare la traversata con Eka Jaya, questa compagnia ha delle barche molto grandi, ci sono sembrate più stabili e sicure. Abbiamo speso circa 110 euro andata e ritorno in due. L’andata è stata molto tranquilla, siamo stati all’esterno e abbiamo preso un po’ di sole, al ritorno visti i racconti abbiamo preferito stare dentro. Tenete presente che la barca, prima di partire veramente per Bali, ferma a Gili Air e Gili Meno, dove viene raggiunta da una piccola imbarcazione che fa salire e scendere, e a Lombok. Una volta in mare aperto per circa 40 minuti abbiamo ballato parecchio, le onde erano alte e si sentivano dei bei colpi, nonostante la giornata meravigliosa. Molte persone sono state male e altre hanno avuto attacchi di panico, noi avevamo vissuto un mare così su imbarcazioni molto più piccole e non abbiamo avuto problemi. Vi ricordo per chi soffre il mare che è possibile andare alle Gili con un volo che atterra su Lombok, un taxi e pochi minuti di barca, il costo ovviamente è superiore. L’esperienza alle Isole Gili però è stata talmente bella che riaffronteremo sicuramente il viaggio.
