Electroforming is an amazing process that you can use to build a solid metal casing around just about any object painted with a metal conductive paint 🖤 The electroforming bath contains harsh chemicals and so organic matter needs to be protected by using a special paint that contains a type of resin and graphite powder so it acts as both a sealant and a conductor at the same time! Electroforming Bath Maintenance - Filtering the solution is only one piece of the pie when it comes to bath maintenance but it's an important one. I find alot of issues can be solved with filtering alone. Other factors of maintenance is making sure you have correct levels of sulphuric acid, distilled water, and a few other additives. Also Correct temperature and agitation is a must. The hard part is that.... Overall you can't tell what the levels are by looking at the blue liquid but there's little clues you can use to work things out and over time you become to get more in tune with your own bath and what it needs. I have followed SO MANY peoples advice on what to do and half of the things the experts say don't work for me. Half do under certain circumstances. You have to try it all and figure it out. This is why I don't want to create an electroforming course even though so many people have asked. It's not as simple and clear cut for everyone. I have found that the best thing you can do is not mess with your bath too much. Don't go adding a bunch of stuff if you don’t know what you’re doing because too much additives can cause problems too. (but also going through that process of adding too much is part of the learning). Make sure it's filtered, don’t expose your bath to any other metals except copper. You just don’t want stuff going in the bath that shouldn’t be in there because it can mess things up sometimes beyond repair. I have found that I have less problems when I make my own solution compared to store bought stuff. If going down this route always use pure ingredients. Get pure sulphuric acid and copper sulphate not drain cleaners. Drain cleaners might work at first but overtime the additives that are inside those will breakdown and start messing with your bath. I can recommend some additives that can be shipped world wide that I use, just ask I'm happy to share. 😊 The goal is to have a solution that will last many many years to come with the correct maintenance.
