Today marks the beginning of End of Grade Testing for my Brightwood Tigers and all GCS students! They’ve worked so hard, and now it’s time to show all they’ve learned. I’m proud of their growth, dedication, and determination. I also lift up a prayer for students across our district and state—that they find confidence, focus, and strength to perform their best. I find myself reflecting a lot on a learning in my certification: how Montessori elementary was made for the Montessori child who experienced the sensorial connections of learning and a love for work. I know that I’m privileged to witness the way my children grow in this way. But I also believe the methods are not exclusive and should not be gate-kept. And so I share! Here: my newly-8yo uses a material I made for her at 2 for birthday walks around the sun. It grew with her at 4-6 years in preschool as a calendar for days, months, and seasons. And now in early elementary, it’s the scaffold for earth studies! Equator countries like the Philippines gets glossed over in references as always having a “summer” but the seasons are different, are felt, and need to be connected to Earth study in curriculum and at home. ♥️🇵🇭 While she worked, I shared the dramatic story of Galileo and it led to wanting to hear the book I got it from. So I read-aloud from “Who Was Galileo?” and when the work was all done, we sang this song as the perfect touch for my soundtrack-loving child. 🎵 The sensorial becomes imagination. The concrete transitions to abstract. The world is a wonder.
