Loving this bold reverse appliqué with some of my favourite fabrics! I’ve trimmed the excess fabric at the back. The reverse of the design is covered with a fusible interfacing as I like the way it holds the threads and fabric in place after stitching. Tacking down – I have started to tack down the loose scrap threads… it’s a big job as it is a very big stitching!! I save all of my off cuts of thread and over the months and years, this collection of scrap threads gets rather large… but rather than throwing them away, this process incorporates them into new artworks and it creates a multi-coloured effect that would be so hard to achieve through other means. The first job is to tack down the loose threads and then I will go over the scrap area with different colour threads to stitch in the gaps so that there is no base fabric visible. As this is one of the largest scrap pieces I have ever done, it will no doubt be a slow (but rewarding) process.
