A few weeks ago, I produced and emceed my first ever live entertainment concept: a talent show called Someone’s Got Talent to bring together LA’s local talent, ranging from comedians to singers and more. The show was a huge success, with a full lineup of performers, an amazing crowd, and most importantly, smiles, laughs and people being silly all night. What an absolute honour to have emceed 🎤 the launch of “Empower Her”, the theme for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2024 alongside their #byherside #fightbreastcancer social media campaign. @bcfsg @tantocksenghospital 🩷 The wonderful Ms Jane Ittogi graced the event as our Guest-of-Honour and gave an inspiring speech about how studies have shown that women having children later in life can put us at a higher risk for developing breast cancer. She also reminded us of the importance of eating well, exercising regularly, being by the ocean or close to nature often and surrounding ourselves with positive friendships. 🩷 Meanwhile, @dr_juliana_breastsurg opened the event emphasising how early detection saves lives and while better treatment and emotional support have seen a drop in death rates, we must continue to remind each other to go for regular screenings and do our monthly self-examinations. 🩷 The highlight for me, however, aside from fangirling over Ms Ittogi, was the Walk of Resilience featuring a bevy of beauties at different stages of battling breast cancer. The ladies strutted their stuff on the pink catwalk exuding so much courage, confidence and tenacity that the audience could not stop cheering and applauding. All that #girlpower got this seasoned #emcee a little emotional and i wasn’t ashamed to admit it! 😝 🩷 Look out for a month-load of activities including a festival and the moving Mammobus where i learnt some other shocking facts thanks to survivor @quppie. ▫️While the official numbers state that cancer strikes 1 in 13 women in their lifetime, the actual figures are closer to 1 in 5. ▫️There is an increase in breast cancer amongst women younger than 50 ▫️#Breastcancer in younger women, especially pregnant or nursing mothers is more aggressive because of the surge of hormones. ▫️Many husbands have been the ones to first discover abnormal lumps in their wives breasts! So be sure to go for your #mammogram ladies because #mammogramssavelives! 🎀#breastcancerawareness #breastcancerawarenessmonth
