Devlog 4: Clean code doesn’t always equal good movement. 🛠️ In game development, there is a massive gap between a system that works and one that actually feels right (Game Feel). Even if your Character Controller script in Unity is perfectly structured in C#, the movement can still feel stiff. For my project, Sawmill Simulator, I’m focusing on these three pillars of polish to increase player retention: Input Smoothing for more natural responsiveness. Acceleration and Deceleration to give the character physical weight. Soft Camera Motion to prevent jarring movements and maintain immersion. Thanks to everyone who suggested what items I should add the last time! Many items I can add exactly as-is, but a few things like the floors and grass had to be redrawn a bit to fit into the tile shape. The floors especially were much trickier than I thought they would be! Making the boards line up was an interesting challenge... but I think tiling the trees is going an even bigger challenge.
