EXCITING NEWS Moving house in April meant no nail room so using the current conservatory was my only option, (not great when you’re working with gel 🥴) but I made it work, however at the end of our garden was a large building that we knew could be converted into our offices. Soooo 4 months later, lots of sweat, blood and tears and some damn hard work my husband and I renovated our rooms. One large building became two offices. To say I’m elated is an understatement and considering my husband doesn’t do this for a living, my word he has totally excelled himself, what a fantastic job he’s done, I am forever grateful to him for his hard work. We are both totally shattered now and very glad it’s come to an end (almost), but also so pleased how the rooms have turned out. Hope you like the little video. You never see a vice president when he’s elected. This one is right out front with President Trump 👏 . . JD Vance was born James David Vance on August 28, 1984, in Middletown, Ohio. His family roots are in the Appalachian region, specifically Jackson, Kentucky. He was raised by his maternal grandmother and grandfather, whom he refers to as ”Mamaw” and ”Papaw,” due to his mother’s struggles with addiction. His upbringing was marked by instability and financial hardship, but he excelled academically, eventually graduating from Ohio State University and Yale Law School. His experiences growing up in the Rust Belt and his family’s history heavily influenced his memoir, ”Hillbilly Elegy.”

There’s a big difference between academic impact and educational impact. Academic impact is grades. Educational impact is everything that affects a child’s ability to access, participate, and make progress in their learning environment such as but not limited to communication, motor planning, sensory needs, behavior, social skills, attention, emotional regulation, all of it. Bad grades alone don’t qualify a child for an IEP. We need an identified need, formal evaluation data, goals, and evidence that the child requires specially designed instruction. Kids can excel in some areas and struggle in others. I excelled in math, but due to childhood apraxia of speech, I couldn’t read without SDI and intensive speech therapy. I didn’t begin reading until third grade because my IEP finally gave me what I needed. If a child’s struggle is tied to their disability and they need SDI, they may qualify once the evaluation is complete. If they don’t need SDI but still need support, that’s when a 504 plan may be appropriate. Every child is different. These decisions must be individualized. “One-size-fits-all” advice online misleads families, because no one can determine what’s appropriate without knowing the full picture. That’s why I never walk into an IEP meeting without reviewing all documentation, evaluating data, interviewing the adults, and, when parents allow, interviewing the child. We also have to hold high expectations for children with disabilities per the IDEA. Disability doesn’t mean a child can’t excel. I work with many kids who are gifted and disabled, and they come with real risk factors such as but not limited to masking, burnout, inconsistent performance, executive functioning challenges, anxiety, sensory overload, and even high processing speed that can create frustration. Gifted doesn’t cancel disabled, and disabled doesn’t cancel gifted; the two are not mutually exclusive. We offer free 15-minute consultations, and you never have to become a client to get one.
