AHA vs. BHA: Do you know the difference between these chemical exfoliants? AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) helps with: ▫️Sun damage ▫️Dullness ▫️Signs of aging 〰️Works on the surface of skin BHA (beta hydroxy acid) helps with: ▪️Clogged pores ▪️Enlarged pores ▪️Uneven tone 〰️Works on surface and within pores Which one is your go-to? . . . . . . . #PaulasChoice #SkinCare #SkinCareEssentials #SkinCareRoutine #Exfoliants #BHA #AHA

🧪 Lactic Acid is an AHA on the gentler side so if exfoliants like Retinol or Glycolic Acid irritated your skin or if you have sensitive skin, Lactic Acid is a great alternative. The most unique aspect of Lactic Acid is that it’s also considered a humectant since its molecular structure can attract and bind water molecules which hydrates the skin. OTC Lactic Acid ranges from 5-10% so choose your strength based on how your sensitive your skin is. Let me know which ingredient I should do a DO’s & DON’Ts for next 👀 #lacticacid #skincaretips #exfoliants

What's the difference between AHA & BHA? 🤔 ▫️AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid)▫️ It's water soluble, works only on the surface of skin & helps with: ☀️ Sun Damage 〰️ Signs of Aging ✨ Dullness ▪️BHA (Beta Hydroxy/Salicylic Acid)▪️ It's oil soluble, so it works both on the surface of skin AND in the pores & helps with: 🔘 Clogged & Enlarged Pores ⚖️ Uneven Tone 🐫 Rough Texture ▫️BOTH▪️ are skin-friendly acids capable of undoing the bonds of dead skin, allowing it to shed normally. That layer of dead skin = rough texture, dullness and more pronounced lines plus when this skin builds up, it can clog pores. By removing it, you reveal new, fresh skin! Are you team AHA or team BHA...or both? . . . . . . .#PaulasChoice #SkinCare #SkinCareEssentials #SkinCareRoutine #Exfoliants #AHA #BHA

Hey fellow derms - is it just me or is everyone over exfoliating? Non-derms, don't get it twisted, proper exfoliation can do a lot of good for your skin, but it can also do worse things in the long run if not done properly. So, how do you know if you're overexfoliating? You won't be able to miss the signs. Besides redness and irritation you may also experience swelling, puffiness, sudden acne inflammation, peeling and/or flakiness. That said, there's an easy way to avoid this... Stop using a physical exfoliator! They're too harsh on the skin. Instead use a simple chemical exfoliant - like a glycolic acid - 2x a week (at most!). Exfoliants based on skin concerns! ✨ Exfoliation is one of the best ways to get rid of dead skin cells thereby helping in maintaining a smooth and even skin texture, better penetration of skin care products leaving you with healthy glowing skin. " I don't have dead skin cells, my skin is clean " Are you a person with this thought ❓ If yes, you are absolutely wrong! ❌ Your skin cells age and die regularly and new cells are formed. This life-cycle of skin cells -skin cell turnover slows down as we age. We need helps of certain products like retinol to improve it and exfoliants to take care of accumulated debris to keep the pores clean. ➡️ Exfoliants are of 2 types : 1) Physical exfoliants : These are your store bought scrubs, home made scrubs which have tiny rough particles to exfoliate the skin. (Not recommended ) 2) Chemical exfoliants : These are chemicals which are applied onto the skin in order to exfoliate. Sounds scary? But they are actually not if done the right way. It's one of the best way to exfoliate your skin. ➡️ Some of the chemical exfoliants mentioned in this video : 1) BHA ( Beta Hydroxy Acids) : BHA like salicylic acid , penetrates into the skin more deeply and shows amazing results. BHA is lipophilic, which means it is attracted to oil. It cleans out the excess oil and sebum from the skin. Best advised for oily / comedonal acne skin. 2) AHA ( Alpha Hydroxy Acids) : AHA s like glycolic acid , lactic acid are hydrophilic, which means they are attracted to water. This allows them to lock in moisture onto your skin. Best suited for dry, ageing and pigmented skin. 3) PHA ( Poly Hydroxy Acids ) : PHAs like lactobionic acid , glucanolactone does not penetrate the skin as fast as AHA. Suitable for those with sensitive skin that could react to the products that contain AHA. Note ⚠️ : Do not start on these exfoliants by your own.
