C: @/mrsoulreaper666 on TT Fun fact 🌳💥 Trees can literally explode—and it’s not just a myth. During extreme cold snaps, the sap inside a tree can freeze and expand so fast that the trunk cracks open with a loud gunshot-like bang. This is called frost cracking, and people have reported thinking it was fireworks or a car backfiring. #viral #trending #meme #funny #explore

Wasn’t hit by lightning and nobody on the property smokes or anything. No idea how it started. It rained yesterday so the ground and surrounding area is still wet. Edit: They called the fire department and they are stumped (hahah but for real though wtf) UPDATE: Fire department came back. The tree looked healthy from the outside with leaves and everything but the FD sawed into it and found bad rot. They think that the fermentation and decomposition from the rot spontaneously combusted somehow and now it's burning internally causing the smoke. #science #logic #interesting

Apparently trees just start exploding in the cold? 😭🧍♂️ #reels #viral #funnyvideos #tiktok #javierabelard

Severe cold is moving in and exploding trees are a real possibility. Rapid temperature drops can cause trees to crack and split without warning. Stay inside during extreme cold, avoid standing near large trees, and make sure your emergency plan is in place. Being prepared matters. #explodingtrees #winterstorm #emergencypreparedness #jase

Extreme temperatures in the Upper Midwest can cause trees to split or shed heavy limbs as frozen sap expands. Cracks may sound like gunshots. Keep your distance and stay informed with Citizen 📲 🎥: @007sig4l

** EXPLODING TREES ADVISORY 🌲💥** * That’s right he’s gonna get so cold in the northern Plains and Midwest this weekend that we could have exploding trees! The reason this mainly happens is because the dream cold freezes the sap and water deep inside the tree and causes it to rapidly expand. 💧 -> 🧊 * This acts as a pressure cooker on the outside bark, which eventually gives into the immense pressure and explodes in a loud bang ‼️ * This also famously happens during calm, clear nights due to efficient cooling making the temperature even cold. So one second you’re sitting in your house in the middle of the night and the next you’re hearing your backyard tree go boom! 💥 #science #winterstorm #snow #blizzard #ice

🌲🔥 Why Do Lumberjacks Burn Trees From the Inside? At first glance, it looks strange: a living tree, still standing, with fire eating away at its core. But this practice has a long history in forestry and rural traditions. 🔎 Why is it done? • Drying the wood: A freshly cut tree is heavy with moisture. By burning or hollowing the inside, lumberjacks accelerate the drying process, making the wood lighter and easier to handle. • Pest and disease control: Fire can kill insects, fungi, or parasites living inside the trunk, preventing them from spreading to other trees. • Eliminating a tree without felling it immediately: Sometimes the goal isn’t the wood itself, but clearing the land. Burning the inside weakens the tree until it dies and can be removed later. • Traditional land management: In many cultures, controlled burning was used for centuries to clear space for agriculture without the need for heavy tools. • Fire safety: In modern forestry, controlled burning inside hollow or dead trees reduces the risk of them turning into “torches” during wildfires. ⚠️ What are the consequences? • The tree becomes hollow, fragile, and eventually collapses. • It can create hazards if left standing near trails or communities. • For this reason, the method has largely been replaced today with chainsaws and mechanical felling. 🌍 A look back in time This technique reminds us that before modern machinery, humans relied on creativity and fire to manage forests. It was a practical—though dangerous—solution for survival and land use. 👉 Don’t forget to follow us for more educational insights into nature, forestry, and the surprising history behind outdoor practices. 📹 Credit: Hector Mireles Gallo

Exploding Trees?!? 🤯🌳❄️ Heard a loud BANG during the deep freeze? No, the trees aren’t actually exploding… but it can sure sound like it. Extreme cold can cause what people call “exploding trees”—which is really a frost crack. When temperatures drop fast, the outer layer of a tree contracts quicker than the inside, causing the trunk to split with a shockingly loud crack. (Very dramatic. Zero flames.) These cracks often appear as long vertical splits and can leave trees vulnerable to insects, decay, and future failure once warmer weather rolls in. If your trees sounded like they were auditioning for an action movie, Tree Line’s certified arborists can inspect the damage and help you decide what needs attention—before small cracks turn into big problems.
