Externalities explained with ABG’s ‼️🧋 @toshibetofficial #economics #abg #studytips #study #college

Every topic in Economics ends up on here — maximum and minimum prices, monopolies, monopsonies, trade unions, externalities, market failure and all the rest. The diagrams can look overwhelming but once you understand how to draw them and explain them properly, it all starts to click. Human capital refers to the skills, knowledge, health and personal attributes individuals possess that increase their productivity and economic value . It can be strengthened through education, professional training, on-the-job experience, apprenticeships, and investments in health and wellbeing, all of which enhance an individual’s capacity to contribute effectively to the labour market. At the micro level, higher human capital leads to greater productivity and typically higher wages, while at the macro level it generates positive externalities — such as innovation and knowledge spillovers — that help drive long-run economic growth. #HumanCapital #EconomicsExplained #60SecondEconomics #Tutor2uEconomics #GeoffRiley #AlevelEconomics #EducationEconomics #LabourMarket #EconomicGrowth #SkillsDevelopment #WorkforceSkills #Productivity #TrainingAndDevelopment #KnowledgeEconomy #Externalities #EconomicsRevision #StudyEconomics #EconShorts #LearnEconomics #Microeconomics #macroeconomics

Loud talkers in public? Just one example of a negative externality. Not all costs are paid by the person causing them. #econ #economics #uchicagi #externalities #marketfailure

no more blind faith in “capitalism” to solve the climate crisis. this may be a slightly boring centrist take but it needs to be said: WE NEED RICH GOVERNMENTS TO SPEND A LOT MORE ON THE GREEN ENERGY TRANSITION… otherwise it will not happen. enough of this ESG, “green capitalism” bullsh*t! it will never be enough. and any attempts to get corporations to “internalize” externalities — such as carbon taxes and carbon credits — have their own issues (which i will cover in future videos). please don’t get me wrong — i’m all for corporations doing SOMETHING — but can we please stop acting like the actions of private companies will EVER be enough? it’s a highly irrational belief… almost a new religion for the 21st century. and it makes no sense, given that the climate is (quite literally) an “externality,” as far as corporations are concerned. the simple fact that “externalities” are a thing at all, makes it clear that we need a new type of economics — for the rest of this century and beyond. #economics #externalities #neoliberalism #greencapitalism #energytransition #ESG #ecologicaleconomics

In many ways, capitalism has been a positive-sum game, providing much of the progress we thrive on today through the process of competition. But too much competition also comes with many negative externalities, like environmental destruction - because markets can’t perfectly capture the costs impacted on third parties. So how do we find that sweet spot of competition vs cooperation for society? Is it possible to find the best of both worlds? #competition #capitalism #moloch #positivesum #progress #zerosum #gametheory #universe

There’s an economic idea that affects everyone, but most people rarely think about it. This idea is called externalities. It happens when companies don’t pay the full cost of their actions, and those costs end up falling on everyone else. For example, when companies pay low wages, workers may need public assistance. Pollution from businesses can lead to higher healthcare bills and increased water costs. Sometimes, environmental damage is left for communities and taxpayers to clean up, even after companies have already made their profits. When highly profitable companies push these costs onto others, it’s not really ‘free market efficiency.’ Instead, it means the public is paying to support private profits. That’s why we have smart rules. They help make sure the people or companies who create these costs are the ones who pay for them, instead of quietly passing them on to everyone else. #fightgreed #makeadifference #wearyourvalues #economics #greed #givebacktothecommunity #peopleoverprofit #economics #externalities

Power from your footsteps? Welcome to Japan. 🇯🇵 Some crosswalks and train stations in Japan now use piezoelectric tiles — tech that converts the pressure of your steps into electricity. It’s not just innovation for the sake of novelty — it’s economics in motion. 📉 In traditional economics, human movement in cities is a neutral activity — people walk, cities wear down, and governments pay for infrastructure. But what if every step you took helped fund the system? 👣 With piezoelectric flooring: Foot traffic becomes an energy source. Cities recover value from an underutilized externality — movement. Public spaces gain a partial funding mechanism, reducing fiscal pressure. It’s a small-scale application of Pigouvian thinking — turning a side effect into a solution. Now imagine the same logic applied to: Gyms Concert venues Sports stadiums Airports Urban economics isn’t just about congestion pricing or zoning. Sometimes, it’s about monetizing the unnoticed. #UrbanEconomics #Piezoelectricity #JapanInnovation #Externalities #PublicGoods #SustainableCities #EnergyHarvesting #SmartInfrastructure #EconInAction
