📍 Falling Spring Falls, Alleghany County, Virginia 💦 80 ft. waterfall right off the side of Rt. 220, 5 miles north of Covington 📚 Unfortunately, I couldn't find any research on how the indigenous people regarded the falls, but I read the falls was part of a land grant from King George III of England. In 1784, then-governor Thomas Jefferson wrote in his Notes On The State Of Virginia “the only remarkable cascade in this country is that of the Falling Spring in Augusta..." The morning after the 4th, we stumbled on a little slice of heaven. Falling Spring Falls near Hot Springs, VA was wrapped in fog and absolutely breathtaking. The 80-foot drop looked like something from a storybook. Even Thomas Jefferson wrote about this spot back in the day and I see why. If you’re ever near the Alleghany Highlands, don’t skip it.
