It was this exact reel that got me my first hater comment. And my second. And my 25th 🫢 I really had no idea that sharing one of my favorite memories would lead to so much vitriol. Lots of people hated how my 17-year-old self spoke. Lots of people hated that I asked my dad so many questions about the gift. Lots of people called me spoiled. Lots of people got annoyed that it was a football jersey and not a basketball jersey (not my fault, ask Modell’s) But then there were the comments that showed me exactly why I posted this. The ones that reminded me why I’m here in this online space, sharing my passions, my energy, and my memories. The comments from people who shared their own special memories from Christmas, that forever changed them. The comments from other people who have also lost loved ones and cherish being able to remember moments like this with them. These moments remind me that we are not here just posting. We are here building a community together. We are here to find and cultivate human connection. And sometimes, that doesn’t happen with fancy editing, crazy dance moves, or trending audio. It happens with sharing moments who helped shape us into who we are. So, the haters gonna hate. But YOU’RE gonna attract your tribe in the process.
