#rogerfederer - I’ve always loved this video of Roger and I’ve always shown it to my players to help them understand how much importance he placed on creating width from the ground up — with his feet and legs — to find space and create different forehands. He would alternate spins, vary the speed, and change the height of the ball. He adjusted the trajectory depending on his court position and looked to push back only at the right moment. I consider this one of the most beautiful videos in my archive because it combines incredible intensity with disarming simplicity. What Roger was able to do was truly unique. The practice wall gets zero respect. It’s what you do when you can’t find a hitting partner. It’s the consolation prize of tennis training. That’s completely wrong. And the players who dismiss it are leaving one of the best training tools in the game untouched. I spent hours on the wall when I was 8 or 9 years old. Not because I had no one to hit with. Because the coaches told us to. Every serious player in that programme used it regularly and deliberately. Here’s what the wall gives you that a hitting partner doesn’t. The ball comes back faster than you expect. Which means your preparation has to be earlier than you think. Which means your footwork has to be better than you realise. The wall exposes every lazy habit you have and it does it relentlessly. 👉 The wall doesn’t care about your excuses. Every short backswing, every late split step, every lazy recovery - it finds them all. Use it with a purpose though. Don’t just bash balls at it. Pick one thing. Footwork into the ball. Non-hitting arm. Follow-through. Work that one thing for 15 minutes straight and you’ll get more focused repetitions than most players get in a full hitting session. It’s also the best place to work on your return of serve mentality. The ball comes fast, you have no time to think, and you have to react. That’s exactly what a good return situation feels like. If you’ve got 30 minutes and no court partner, the wall is not your second option. It’s your first. In the spring of 2017, Roger Federer did something no one had seen in years: he weaponized his backhand. Coming off a five-set Australian Open final win over Nadal — his first Grand Slam in five years — Federer arrived in Indian Wells a changed player. He had a new 97-inch racket, a new attacking mindset, and a backhand that coaches had been begging him to trust for over a decade. Against Nadal in the fourth round, it was the definitive shot of the match — aggressive block returns on the backhand wing that denied Nadal his greatest tactical advantage, turning the Spaniard’s biggest weapon against him. Federer closed it out 6-2, 6-3 in 68 minutes. He then beat Jack Sock and Stan Wawrinka in the final to claim his record-tying fifth Indian Wells title — his 90th career crown — becoming at 35 the oldest Masters 1000 champion in over two decades. At an age when most players are winding down, Federer was discovering a new dimension of his game. The backhand that had always been underrated was suddenly, briefly, the best shot in tennis. The 2016 Australian Open semifinal between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic was one of the last great meetings between the two most successful players of their generation — Federer at 34, Djokovic at 28 and in the middle of the most dominant period of his career. This rally sits inside that match. What makes a Federer-Djokovic exchange different from any other is the specific nature of the problem each player poses for the other — Federer’s ability to shorten points with one shot from anywhere on the court, against Djokovic’s ability to retrieve everything and outlast every sequence. The rally extends because neither player can find the shot that ends it cleanly. Every ball that comes back is an argument. The one that finally doesn’t is the resolution. It’s a thing of beauty…whose one handed backhand are you choosing? 🙌 The one-handed backhand isn’t just a shot… it’s a statement of timing, precision, and feel. Look at players like Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, and Stefanos Tsitsipas - completely different styles, same underlying mechanics. Here’s what’s really happening: 1. Full kinetic chain, but with greater demand on timing You’re loading the outside leg, rotating the hips and torso, then releasing through a long, uninterrupted hitting arm. No second hand to stabilise → which means perfect spacing and timing are non-negotiable. 2. Linear + rotational blend The best one-handers drive through the ball while rotating, creating that clean, penetrating ball flight. When done right, it’s one of the most efficient ways to transfer energy into the shot. 3. Extension = control + spin That long extension through contact allows for: • Easier access to slice • Heavy topspin when timed well • Variety that two-handers struggle to replicate #tennis #federer #rogerfederer #tennisplayer #tennis🎾

According to "The Code," if you aren’t 100% sure a ball is out… it’s 100% in. There’s no "I think it was out" or "It looked like it might have been wide." In the world of fair play, a ball that is 99% out is still 100% good. #nadal #federer #tennis

At Indian Wells 2017, Roger Federer delivered a masterclass against Rafael Nadal, showcasing precision, aggression, and complete control from start to finish. 🎾🔥 Federer dictated every rally with his sharp backhand and early ball striking, taking time away from Nadal and breaking down his rhythm on both wings. It was one of those rare days where everything clicked — timing, movement, and shot selection all perfectly aligned. Against one of the greatest competitors in tennis history, Federer didn’t just win… he dominated, reminding the world of his unmatched brilliance on the court. 🐐✨ #tennis #federer #nadal #indianwells #tennishighlights tennisfans

😍Poetry in Motion… Federer’s Slice Backhand Few shots in tennis are as smooth and effortless as Roger Federer’s slice backhand. The balance, the control, the way he glides through the ball… it really is poetry in motion. But behind that elegance is a key fundamental most players miss. A big part of generating a strong, penetrating slice is anchoring your weight on the front leg through contact. That stable base allows you to control the racket path, stay balanced, and drive through the ball with more authority instead of just floating it back. When you get this right, your slice becomes lower, more controlled, and far more effective. Tag your hitting partner that needs to see this⬇️ #tennis #tennistips #atp #federer #tennislove
