- Saint Fevronia - Saint Fevronia was a sought-after bride for her physical beauty. But her pure soul shone just as brightly. For this reason, at the age of 17, she chose the path of asceticism and continence She went to the monastery where her aunt, Bryeni, was the abbess and was located in Mesopotamia. Quickly, despite her young age, she adapted to the difficult rules of monastic life, while also finding time to study and delve into the Holy Scriptures. She became a model among the other nuns for her prudence, her zeal, her willingness and her humble attitude. One day, however, a military force that was persecuting Christians, led by Selinus also arrived at the monastery of Fevronia. The other nuns managed to escape, but the Saint, who was ill, was unable to move. Abbess Bryeni and sister Thomas remained near her. The soldiers, as soon as they saw Fevronia, were amazed by her beauty. So they left three men to guard her, and the rest returned and reported it to their leader Selinus. He immediately ordered her to be brought before him, and in every way he pressured her to convert. He proposed to Fevronia that he give her as a wife to his nephew Lysimachus, with whom she would know great glory. Fevronia, however, preferred to become “a partaker of the glory to be revealed” That is, she preferred to be a partaker of the glory that will be revealed at the second coming, and with excessive courage she despised the proposals of Selinus, who, after torturing her, finally killed her with a sword.

PRAYING FOR YOUR MARRIAGE AND FAMILY On 8 July, we will be celebrating the feast day of two very unusual saints - the Holy Prince Peter and Holy Princess Fevronia of Murom. Sts Peter and Febronia showed themselves as exemplary models of Christian marriage. When Peter inherited the crown of the city of Murom, people refused to serve his wife Fevronia because she used to be poor. Between fame and family, Peter chose to leave the throne and move to a different city with his wife. Tradition has it that as they were on a boat, a man started to flirt with Fevronia and she understood what his intentions were. She called him and said: “Go and scoop some water from this side of the boat.” Then she told him to drink that water and scoop some more from the other side. She asked him to drink it as well. “Does it taste the same? Or maybe it is sweeter on one side?” she asked. “It’s all the same water, your highness,” answered the man. “And so is the nature of all women. Why then do you want to cheat on your wife, even in thoughts, and think about another woman?” Becoming afraid, the man gave up his evil intentions. Saints Peter and Fevronia are considered the patron saints of marriage and family. Believers invoke their names for finding a spouse, building a strong family and preserving harmony at home.
