La FTU o Fingertip Unit (unidad de la yema del dedo) es una unidad de medida clínica que se usa para indicar la cantidad adecuada de corticoide tópico que debe aplicarse sobre la piel. Es una herramienta útil para evitar tanto la subdosificación como el uso excesivo de estas cremas o ungüentos. ¿Qué es una FTU? Una FTU se define como la cantidad de crema o ungüento exprimida desde un tubo estándar (con boquilla de 5 mm de diámetro), que se extiende desde la punta del dedo índice hasta la primera articulación del mismo en un adulto. Aproximadamente equivale a 0.5 gramos de producto. ¿Qué superficie corporal cubre? Una sola FTU cubre aproximadamente una superficie equivalente a dos palmas de la mano del paciente (incluyendo los dedos). En términos generales, se considera que la palma de la mano representa aproximadamente el 1% de la superficie corporal total. ¿Por qué es útil? Es una forma práctica y visual para que tanto médicos como pacientes: Apliquen la cantidad correcta de corticoide. Eviten efectos secundarios del uso excesivo (como atrofia cutánea). It was worse on flexion and became more painful as the day went on.⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ An MRI identified a ganglion cyst. A ganglion is common, and is a cyst that arises in proximity to joints or tendon sheaths. The dorsal wrist is the most common site, but they can also appear in the fingers (and toes!).⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ Ganglions at the PIPJ are rare. The patient had unwent an aspiration prior to the video above.
