3 things I wish I knew before building my DIY fire pit 🔥 • Leave space between bricks for airflow! I installed mine 3 years ago and learned this after from you guys 💪🏼 • Stake down the weed barrier fabric. I skipped this step thinking it didn’t matter, but it shifted under the gravel and I had to go back and fix it 🙃 • Lay the brick edging short side out (aka a header course). ➡️DM us for all the 🔗🔗 or visit the 🔗 in our bio! ➡️Instructions for measuring and drilling vent holes- At the top of the ring I drilled 11 - 1” holes spaced 2 1/4” apart on center and 1 1/2” down from the top of the ring 2 1/2” on center. At the bottom I drilled 5 - 1 1/2” holes spaced 5 1/4” apart on center  and 1 1/2” from bottom on center. To make it easier I used masking tape to measure and mark the distance between each hole first then applied it to each section, sort of like a sticky ruler. After drilling all the holes I used a 2” step bit to help deburr the holes and painted all the holes with Rustoleum high heat spray paint to make sure they didn’t rust. This paint is good to use to re-coat the fire pit ring from season to season to prevent rust. For the pit itself I used 34 Beltis Wall Blocks from Home Depot - I started first by laying out the ring with 12 blocks to for a circle, then removed two over them, one from either side, and moved the remaining blocks to create even spacing between them for air flow. Now with those 10 blocks evenly spaced I staked the rest on top so the blocks were staggered. You should have 1 bottoms ring of 10 blocks and two more rings of 12 on top of that. For the pit substrate I used some 1” brick pavers layed around the interior and a bag of all purpose stone. The stones are big enough to help provide air flow to the fire and easier to arrange the wood. For the surrounding area I use several bags of crushed granite, it dries fast and doesn’t get muddy so it’s great for a space like this. The outer ring of the fire pit area, where the grass starts I used around 80 1” paver bricks. #diy #outdoor #firepit #firepitdesign #fire #diyprojects #diyproject
