Instead of panicking when you get a million conflicting notes on your draft try sorting the feedback into three categories. 1) I agree with this and it feels helpful. 2) I disagree with this and it doesn’t feel helpful. 3) Neutral. You don’t have to take everyone’s feedback, you just need to figure out the feedback that works for you and helps bring your vision to life. #screenwriter #screenwriting #filmmaking #writingtips #filmschool

So much of writing the first draft is just getting it all down. But as you revise your screenplay it’s all about fine tuning and tightening. One simple exercise you can do to tighten up your script is to look at the final line or two of every scene and ask yourself if you can cut out of the scene earlier. Often scenes in early drafts will linger a little bit too long, which make for a harder reading experience because every scene loses momentum instead of gaining it. Can you leave the scene sooner? A simple question that’s super helpful as you write and rewrite and rewrite again your screenplay. #screenwriting #screenwriter #writingtips #filmschool #filmmaking

WHERE ARE MY ACTORS AND FILM MAKERS ATTTT🗣🔥🔥 #community #acting #movies #writing #scriptwriting

People always say Hollywood hates original ideas. That’s not really it though. When something is based on a book, a comic, a game, a previous film, there’s history. There’s box office data. There are audience comps. They can look at five similar projects and build a forecast. Even if it flops, they have a range for what that failure probably looks like. That’s what “quantifiable downside” really means. Not that something is safe. Just that the worst case scenario can be estimated. With an original script, the upside might be huge. But the downside is harder to predict. And when you’re dealing with hundred-million-dollar budgets inside public companies, that uncertainty becomes the real tension. If you’re a writer, this isn’t meant to discourage you. It’s meant to clarify the landscape. Once you understand how risk is actually evaluated, you can position your work more intentionally instead of just feeling like the system is randomly against you. #screenwriting #filmcommunity #writersofinstagram #writingtips #storytelling

I started at page 89. Did I hit my 5 page goal? Read to the end to find out 👀 If you’re new here: 👋🏻 Hi, I’m a former associate lit manager who cut her teeth reading and recommending talent at multiple high-level boutique literary management companies in LA Now I help unrepresented screenwriters finish their screenplays, improve their work, and take next steps toward getting representation I’ve been neglecting my own writing lately and decided to change that with this series FOLLOW if you want insight into what it actually looks like to finish a screenplay one hour at a time And if you want help actually showing up and finishing too: comment NoonWriters and I’ll send a free week in my writers’ gym. Only worth commenting if you can show up at least once this week * I fully planned on this script being complete at 90 pages… buuut I’m finding I still have a few scenes to flesh out in order to complete the story I let myself write a few ending scenes out of order, and now I’m coming up on them. Aaaand they don’t quite match up with everything I’ve been building in the meantime. I’m not fucked or anything But I am at a point where perfectionists might turn back and start re-writing Act 1 Which I’m totally not going to do These scenes still hit the main notes from my outline I just need to do a bit more thinking than I have been, which slows me down a touch Important to note: this draft is still highly liquid. Nothing is set in stone. A TON is going to change before the final polish at the end of March Speaking of: I have 23 writing hours left until my polish deadline. That’s just shy of half the time it took to get me here So, I’m not kicking back with a mimosa, but I’m not panicking either I’m sooo close to entering my favorite part of the process Editing is my JAM The vomit draft is easily the hardest part for me (this is the stage where I need NoonWriters the most) and I’m sooooo close to being done!!! All in all, I got up to 92 pages today So… did I hit my 5 page goal? Nope, but I made progress and that’s still a win It’s only the 3rd time in 28 days I didn’t hit 💅 I’m fine girl
