Since basically everything today is computer-based, fast typing makes a huge difference in productivity and saves you so much time through the day. It is an especially useful skill to have as a resident physician, where you have to type notes + orders day in and out. 😅 The key to typing fast is to learn what is called touch-typing, i.e typing through muscle memory, without having to look at the keyboard. More than 60 WPM (words per minute) is a good enough speed for an average person for all day to day tasks, in my opinion. If you feel like your typing skills cause you to slack and you want to get better, try this: ➡️ I started by using a website called typing.com, which teaches how your fingers should be placed over every key, and goes from beginner to advanced level. It helps you focus on accuracy at first, without getting bogged down by speed. ➡️ What follows next is mindful practice. Consistent practice, with no shortcuts, for about 5-10 minutes daily. You can make use of websites like typeracer.com, 10fastfingers, monkeytype - there are hundreds more out there. I personally used and loved keybr.com, as it uses an adaptive algorithm that collects statistics from the user’s typing speed and accuracy for each key and common key combinations to then personalise future exercises accordingly. You will be amazed to see how far daily practice takes you in strengthening muscle memory and slowly building speed. 🌟 Dictation, smart-phrases and personal dictionary in the EMR are the golden tools that will undoubtedly make your life unimaginably easier, but fast typing is still an indispensable skill, imo. Ideas tend to run away if you don’t catch them quickly. So instead, do this: 1️⃣ Write down your ideas as they come & FIGHT THE URGE to refine long the way. 2️⃣ Go back and delete anything that: - doesn’t serve the main point - doesn’t add value 3️⃣ Brainstorm ways to shorten each sentence. Here's a straightforward structure we use on faceless channels to keep viewers hooked: 1️⃣ Hook (0–10 sec) Start with something surprising or intriguing. Skip long intros. 2️⃣ Context Setup tell viewers what they'll get from the video. 3️⃣ Pattern Interrupts Throw in surprises interesting facts or change visuals every 20–30 seconds. 4️⃣ Open Loops Hint at what's coming up to make viewers stick around. 5️⃣ Fast Pacing Cut out fluff.
