3 things I wish I knew before building my DIY fire pit 🔥 • Leave space between bricks for airflow! I installed mine 3 years ago and learned this after from you guys 💪🏼 • Stake down the weed barrier fabric. I skipped this step thinking it didn’t matter, but it shifted under the gravel and I had to go back and fix it 🙃 • Lay the brick edging short side out (aka a header course). Fire and artificial turf does not mix !!! LOL trust me A superduper common want is a fire pit in their artificial lawn area . If you’re using propane or natural gas, you’re probably OK. Though if you want woodburning…. We gotta get creative. What you see here is a small Flagstone pad specifically for their fire pit. This client loves sitting around their wood-burning fire pit, but also wanted this area to be artificial grass . So we installed it this way and boom best of both worlds.

Save this for later! This DIY fire pit was so easy I don’t know why we didn’t do it sooner! It only took about an hour to do everything except the posts/lights. Now we just need to fill in some areas with some grass 😄 What do you think?? Here is a quick run-down of what we did, but I will share more details and link what I can in stories and save it all to a highlight so you can reference it later! 1. We mapped out a 12’ circular area and dug a couple inches of dirt out. 2. We marked about a 3.5’ circle in the middle for where the fire pit itself would go and started laying the stones. 3. We put down some landscape fabric to try to prevent weeds/grass from coming up through the rocks, then placed smaller pavers along the perimeter as a border. 4. We then spread drain field rock inside the fire pit and the rest of the circle. 5. We used three 4x4x10 posts placed around the fire pit so we could string lights.
