Here's to a nice, calm and slow start to the week. This Fluval Flex 15 gallon low tech setup has been the easiest aquascape to maintain and currently one of the most enjoyable to watch as I wait for the 60p to grow in. This is something anyone looking to get into the hobby can replicate at a reasonable cost. Most of these plants I have slowly acquired over time and have propagated myself in order to get this full. While this was meant to be a plant grow out tank, it's now become a beautiful mainstay. Equipment Fluval Flex 15 gallon (57 L) Stock light No CO2 Stock filter with extra bags of media. No carbon, just sponge and ceramic. Plants Micranthemum montecarlo Eleocharis acicularis mini Cryptocoryne parva Dwarf sagittaria Rotala h'ra Java fern Bucephalandra wavy green Heteranthera zosterifolia Cryptocoryne undulatus brown Weeping moss Maintenance 50% water change every 3-4 weeks or earlier if needed (though rare). Lights on at 100% with red/blue and white for 8 hours. Trimming as needed, usually once a month. Fish fed daily with one day skipped. Fluval bug bites, blood worms, frozen baby brine shrimp. Upgraded Fluval Flex Aquarium With Guppies And Neon Tetras In it! My friend scored this Fluval Flex for an amazing deal on Facebook Marketplace, and it’s his very first aquarium! 🎉🐠 He went with a fun community mix—guppies, neon tetras, otocinclus, and cherry shrimp (some will be moving to a bigger tank soon) and upgraded it with some awesome 3D-printed accessories from his own Etsy store. 🖨️✨ Not long after setting it up, the stock light gave out, so I hooked him up with a Nicrew C10. It’s a bit strong for this tank, so he mounted it on risers to fine-tune the light spread and help control algae, especially on the 24/7 setting. 🌿💡 I also shared some cherry shrimp and gave him a few plants—rotala rotundifolia and ludwigia mini super red—to kickstart his aquatic garden. Since he’s using an aftermarket light, he decided to ditch the stock lid and 3D-print custom back panels. Not only do they neatly hide the filtration compartment, but they also leave room for emergent plants to thrive! 🌱 One of the best upgrades he printed was a spray bar for the filter outlet. The standard outflow was a bit too strong for the guppies, but with the new spray bar, they’re much happier! 🐟💦 The mix of submerged and emergent plants helps stabilize water parameters—great for a beginner setup. I checked his filter media and water parameters, and so far, everything looks fantastic. 👌 He’s already got his eye on a second, bigger tank after spotting some great deals on Marketplace. Can’t wait to see what he does next! Setting up the Fluval 407 and UVC! I love running UVCs on my tanks! They help eliminate suspended algae & bacteria, while clearing cloudy or green water without using any chemicals! This is now my second 07 series UVC! The first one has been running for roughly 3 years without any issues! I now have two tanks without UVCs and I can tell a HUGE difference in a quality vs the tanks that have UVCs. This specific UVC runs 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 hours. Personally, I only run mine 4 hours a day! Fluval also has an FXUVC for all of the FX series canister filters!
