📼 Flashback Rewind 1979 👇📖 🇬🇧🦎💰 “Money” — The Flying Lizards 💬 🧊💵 “Money… that’s what I want.” When The Flying Lizards released their version of “Money” in 1979, it felt like a cold shock to the system. Stripping Barrett Strong’s original down to its bones, the band turned a classic R&B plea into something stark, mechanical, and unsettling. This wasn’t about groove or warmth—it was about consumerism, detachment, and the uneasy relationship people had with money at the end of the 1970s. Every note feels deliberate, empty, and transactional. Arriving during the rise of post-punk and early new wave, the track reflected a moment when British artists were rejecting excess and emotion in favor of irony and restraint. Deborah Evans-Stickland’s flat, almost emotionless vocal delivery is the song’s secret weapon—money isn’t desired, it’s stated like a fact of life. 💸🦎 The result is a song that sounds timeless, alien, and eerily modern, perfectly capturing the late-70s shift toward skepticism, minimalism, and anti-glamour cool. ✨📼 🎞️ Fun Facts 1️⃣ 💰 The band deliberately removed swing and soul to make the song feel uncomfortable and clinical. 2️⃣ 🦎 The Flying Lizards were more of an art project than a traditional band, rooted in experimental studio ideas. 3️⃣ 📻 The track became a surprise international hit despite (or because of) how uncommercial it sounded. #FlashbackRewind #TheFlyingLizards #Money #NewWave #PostPunk

Flying Lizards🦎✈️ Insert David Attenborough voice🎙️ "The male Draco flying lizard erects and flicks his colorful dewlap in hopes of catching the female's eye. She... remains utterly unimpressed. After a series of spirited attempts, our rejected suitor scampers up the branch and makes a dramatic exit...leaping into the air and gliding off in search of love elsewhere." Filmed in Bali, where I watched several of these lizards glide with precision from tree to tree, a truly awesome behavior for any reptile enthusiast to witness! #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nature #animals #baliindonesia #lizard

A beautiful Thai flying dragon (Draco taeniopterus) found in southern Thailand with @evankirincich last year. This is a lizard species I really wanted to find visiting Southeast Asia and if you were curious, they really can fly! Perhaps glide is a better word, but these wings aren’t just for looks. This species will often jump from tree to tree using these wings to glide across, similar to a flying squirrel. I was absolutely enamored to come across this creature, as I’d imagine most people would be after coming across a reptile that looks like something out of a fairy tale! #thaiflyingdragon #dracotaeniopterus #draco #flyingdragon #dragon #thailand #wildlife #herping #nature #fieldherping #reptiles #outdoors #herpetology #animals #flyinglizard #dragonlizard

📍@sciencediscovery __________________ Frilled lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii) is a unique reptile native to northern Australia and southern New Guinea. It is best known for its large neck frill, which expands when threatened to make it appear more intimidating. This frill, supported by cartilage, remains folded against its body when not in use.
