Oh goodness @fodder.school 5 has begun and I’m already knee deep in Rolodex art obsession! Arlyna @abshanghai has knocked it out of the park with these projects and at this rate I’m going to need another Rolodex or two for all the cards I want to make. I have a feeling this is going to turn out to be the reason I’ve been making and hoarding a million fussy cut bits and clusters just waiting for their new home in fodderdex heaven! This first batch used a combination of Arlyna’s vellum card lesson with a @karenelainecreative bonus touch to add some colour. This actually makes me wish I had a coffee table (and socialized) so I could casually show these off but thankfully the internet can help me with that! I was inspired by the lessons from Fodder School 4 taught by @meganquinlanstudio to develop washi tape focal points for my art journals and greeting cards. November's Fodder School Fodder-dex project led me to create these vintage inspired specimen insect cards. Each insect sits in a black card frame with an oval window, echoing the look of traditional specimen trays used in natural history collections. I added an aged film filter with crackle and light leaks to give it that time worn atmosphere. With beautiful creatures by Pere Villanova playing in the background, the lyrics felt like the perfect reminder: "We want all the beautiful creatures to multiply themselves so that beauty flowers." This activity made me pause and think about nature conservation, insect preservation, and the fragility of the creatures we share the planet with. If we don't take care of them now, one day specimen cards might be the only way we see these beautiful beings.
