What we now call folklore was never meant to be myth. ✨It was the belief of the people. And it still is for many. Before widespread literacy, people shared their real lived experiences, spiritual understandings, and knowledge through spoken word, rituals, and practice. These were not just some imagined stories, but ways of recording truth when writing was inaccessible or controlled. Folklore carried how people understood the world, what they witnessed, and what they learned through living.✨🕯️ It was only later, when written records became the authority of truth, that these lived beliefs were reclassified as “folklore” or “myth.” ( Words I truely don’t believe in) As literacy became tied to power, knowledge that existed outside of books was dismissed as symbolic or fictional. This especially affected traditions held by women, elders, and indigenous communities.Folklore was never meant to be fictional. It was truth preserved in a form that could survive time.
