January 13th 2024 I had a chunk of me nose bitten off by a dog. I thought I was going into hospital for a few stitches because I hadn’t looked at the damage when it happened. After a long wait in A&E, I finally got to speak with the plastics team, who advised I could either have a skin graft, but it wouldn’t ’fill very well and I’d be left with a big dent in my nose’, or I could opt for a ‘forehead flap’. Both options sounded terrifying & I was so shocked that the damage must have been so much worse than I thought, but I went for the forehead flap because they said it would be the best cosmetic outcome, albeit the hardest process & facing multiple surgeries. Fast forward to 31st May, I’ve had 4 surgeries to reconstruct my nose, using the skin on my forehead. All stitches have come out from the last surgery & I can finally walk outside without covering my nose up with tape. Although it’s not quite over yet, I just cannot believe this journey I’ve been on 😂 This is a reminder that although we all love dogs and treat them like our babies, they are a n i m a l s…. They can get defensive & ALL dogs have the capacity to bite. Also a reminder that if you spend your life being too fixated on your appearance and not focusing on feeling good WITHIN, if anything happens to ruin your appearance, you’ll feel like you’ve lost everything. I’ve spent years working on myself & personal development so i genuinely believe that made all of this so much easier to process & deal with. 🤍 Ps. My forehead flap surgery is going to be Monday. The tissue expander was successful. I thought it was going to have to get a lot bigger, but they measured it today and it’s ready.
