Patrick Piccinelli, acrylic paint, paint marker, pigment on canvas, 80X80 cm, 2024. I wanted a dominant blue for this composition as a tribute to the great jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery. Released in 1960 on his album « The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery », this piece has become a jazz standard. The color blue is traditionally associated with the blues, both for its melancholic mood and its characteristic rhythm. In the context of « West Coast Blues », Montgomery explores a blues in 6/8, which gives the piece a tonal color that evokes both a certain melancholy and a great softness. The « blue musical color » evokes introspective emotions and an atmosphere of relaxation. The unusual rhythmic signature, combined with Montgomery’s unique touch gives the piece a warm and intimate sound texture, a bit like a soft and muffled blue. The music of Montgomery heard in my studio inspired me these shades of blue. This curvaceous chair was designer Ron Arad’s first foray into wooden furniture for the Italian manufacturer Moroso. The structure underneath is actually made from 3D bent and laminated beech plywood. It’s called the Three Skin chair, presumably because it has three skins (or surfaces of note). There are three doubly curved surfaces…. Seat, back, and underside. Who’s in Amsterdam at the moment? My good friend @peterbezuijen.artist who passed away late last year has been included in an exhibition at gallery 9 @gallery9nl as part of its summer show. Terrific works by 29 artists, including two of Peter’s white works, which are beautiful. These photos of the exhibition taken by Peter’s husband Michael, my dear friend. The show is on until 13th September, and the gallery hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 12:00 - 17:00, and by appointment Sunday - Wednesday.
