Trixie and Tim Dunn came to flip a building and ended up falling in love with a piece of Fort Smith history 🏛️ The building, built in 1890, had been a church, a barber shop, apartments, and home to one of the oldest bars in Fort Smith. Eight years later, the Dunns have poured everything into preserving it — bricking it back to its original shape after a 2020 cloudburst, remodeling every room not to make it something new, but to honor what it already was. Now it’s close to ten Airbnb units, an antique shop, a tattoo parlor, and Old Town Bar, all steps from the bakery district and about ten places to eat on the avenue. Visit the new US Marshals Museum - the building alone is stunning. @marshalsmuseum At the Fort Smith National Historic Site you can see the courtroom where Bass Reeves would bring his prisoners and many were sentenced by the “Hanging Judge.” Elvis lovers should see the Chaffee Barbershop and Military Museum. The Barbershop is where Elvis Presley received his military haircut. It was called. “The haircut heard round the world.” See the amazing downtown murals! They are SO impressive. This was one of my favorite things to see in Fort Smith. Take a ride on the train at Creekmore Park Enjoy nature at the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center Ride the waterslides at Parrot Island Water Park. @parrotislandwaterpark Go antiquing! There are so many great antique and refurbish stores in Fort Smith. We loved Belle Starr for antiques and Wasted was the cutest shop for repurposed items. @bellestarr_vintagemarket Sip a latte at one of the cutest and best coffee shops in Arkansas, Fort Smith Coffee Company. They have three locations around Fort Smith! @fortsmithcoffeeco Dine on excellent Vietnamese food. I suggest either Green Papaya or Pho Vietnam! Have a cinnamon roll at Calico County. Some of the BEST! @calicocounty Eat delicious oysters and cajun food at AJ’s Oyster House. @ajs_oyster_house Step back in time at Ed Walker’s Drive In and try their famous French dips! Try a giant baked potato from Neumeier’s Rib Room. Shop and try their food trucks at the adorable Bakery District. Spend the afternoon at Lake Fort Smith State Park.
