123m Blackout – World Record Attempt Two months before my 122m dive in Roatán in 2016, I attempted a World Record in Free Immersion at 123m in Bali with @apneabali It ended in a blackout. This is rare footage filmed by my friend @pepearcos . Sometimes the most important dives are not the ones where you succeed… but the ones where you learn the most. It is important to show these kinds of images. They help us learn and remind everyone that freediving is a very safe sport when proper safety protocols are followed.

Blackout during depth world record attempt: 103m/ 337ft breaststroke What happened?👇 All was going well on the way down… Sensations and speed were great. Also first 50m on the way up felt good. But around 30m before the surface the muscles got really tired, and in the last 20 meters the body went to hibernation mode and switched off consciousness. There are safety in competitions ready to assist to the surface as fast as possible to the medic team. Thanks to trained procedures it takes around 5-30 sec to restore consciousness. Important to remember that during blackout heart is beating and there’re still oxygen reserves left in the body, for trained athletes it could be still around 20-30 percent of oxygen. Dives like these and blackouts are absolutely not something any of us freedivers want to experience. However, when you push the limit it happens sometimes, it’s an ongoing process of learning and this dives highlight growth and improvement areas 🙌🏼 Cover photo: @daanverhoevenfreediver . . #blackout #blackoutfreediver #blackoutfreediving #freediving #freediver #freedivingphotography

Can you hold your breath with me while I dive 100m without fins? 🧜🏼♀️ Since you guys liked the last video breath hold challenge in the cenotes, I thought I’d make a dynamic freediving version, and take you through the process. 😊 Diving without fins is one of the most challenging freediving disciplines as the goal is to reach the longest possible distance on one breath without the help of any equipment, relying on the efficiency of each movement. Yet, for the very same reason, for many freedivers it’s also the disciplines that brings the deepest sense of freedom underwater. ✨ Important note: Remember to never dive alone and always have a trained buddy watching you in the water ‼️ 🎥 @carlosluna.films #freediving #dynamicnofins #dnf

Why do freedivers breathe oxygen after deep diving? The reason why we use oxygen after deep diving is to help eliminate accumulated nitrogen in our body. Deep dives can lead to nitrogen buildup, and breathing oxygen helps flush out excess nitrogen, reducing the risk of decompression sickness. It also helps in speeding up the recovery process. 🌊🧜♀️ . .
