One of the *many* advantages of vinyl pools compared to fiberglass pools is how easy they are to refresh. With fiberglass, the shell itself is strong and can last a long time. But the gelcoat surface will eventually fade or discolour, and once it does, there isn’t much you can do without a major resurfacing. And with minor cracks to the surface that are inevitable (no, they are not bulletproof), fiberglass pool owners often report that the repairs don’t always blend perfectly. With vinyl and steel pools on the other hand, you can plan for a liner replacement after 10–12 years. Please note: this is the average for our customers, for pools that we install, with proper care. Other installers may have different estimates on the longevity of their liners. If you stay on top of your water chemistry, cover your pool when it’s not in use, regularly vacuum, and brush your waterline, your liner will thank you. If you go on our page, you’ll see many of our liners that have lasted 15–20+ years. If it’s still holding water, any fading is just cosmetic and a liner replacement isn’t necessary. And when it’s time to replace your liner, you’re not stuck with the same old look. You get a brand new looking pool for a relatively cheap cost. I’ve been installing vinyl inground pools in Saskatoon and area for 20+ years.
