⚠️Yellow oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus citrinopileatus) have become an invasive species and are outcompeting native fungi. Consider growing a native variety such as Pearl oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) in the US. Here’s a video of the yellow oyster mushrooms I grew using precooked rice. This seems to be a good introduction to mushroom cultivation. A ready-to-fruit kit is a great way to learn to grow mushrooms. If you’re interested, you can check with a local mushroom farm or online. 🍄🟫🍄🟫 My working area and everything I handled were sanitized with 70% isopropyl alcohol. I injected 1 cc of live oyster mushroom mycelium into the bag of precooked rice and covered the area with micropore tape. I also punctured a tiny hole using a sterile needle on the top portion of the bag for air exchange and covered it with micropore tape. The incubation period can range from 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the environment and type of mushroom. To retain humidity, the colonized bag of rice was fruited and kept in an open plastic bag for fresh air exchange. I misted the bag with water 3-4 times daily.
