1️⃣ Ankling Ankle stiffness focus, develops pre-tensioning around the ankle before ground contact 2️⃣ Dribbles Rhythmic, cyclical actions of top speed at low velocities 3️⃣ Fast Leg B Drills the swing cycle, encouraging negative foot speed during the late swing phase. Extension at the knee should be a result of the action of the hip, not a conscious ‘kick out’ 4️⃣ Fast Leg A Developing hip flexion speed and vertical impulse 5️⃣ Flexed Leg scissors Drills horizontal force production and limb exchange or ‘switching’, specifically for late acceleration or in the case of a stumble or missed step 6️⃣ Straight Leg scissors Drills horizontal force production and limb exchange or ‘switching’ while developing elasticity in the posterior chain. Traditional sprint drills have taken some flack online recently. While I agree there is a time and place for these drills and there can be too much emphasis on ‘perfect’ form, the key here is in the name. They’re just ‘drills’. The right dosage and emphasis on traditional drills and more specific drills and/or competitive exercise should ensure positive rather than negative transfer to mechanics IMO. Drills are another supportive element to speed training, they just sit on the specific end of the continuum. I like to view ‘traditional’ drills much like specific development exercises because in reality they don’t match sprint specific positions exactly - they exaggerate them! This allows learning while developing some special strength qualities. #trackandfield #athletics #speeddevelopment #sprintworkout

The better you prepare, the faster you’ll run ⬇️ these drills are non-negotiable. They’re not just a warm-up—they’re an activation session for your fast-twitch muscles. Each drill activates the exact muscles and movements you’ll use in full speed 🔥 1️⃣ Double bound Exchange • Develops fast-twitch muscle fibers, which are important for explosive speed. • Improves reactive strength, helping you transition from ground contact to propulsion more efficiently. • Simulates the elastic rebound needed during sprinting strides. 2️⃣ Single leg knee drive • Isolate & strengthen the hip flexors, glutes, and hamstrings. • Builds unilateral strength to ensure both legs are equally powerful and efficient. • Improves knee drive, which is critical for generating forward momentum. • Teaching your muscles to fire quickly and effectively. 3️⃣ High knees • Reinforces high hip position, which is essential for efficient stride mechanics. • Trains active foot placement, helping you land directly under your body for maximum power. • Activates your core and stabilizers, keeping you balanced and aligned at high speeds. 4️⃣ Push offs • Improves ankle stiffness, allowing for better energy transfer during sprints. • Strengthens the muscles in your feet, calves, and ankles #warmup #drill #speed #performance #athlete #sport #trackandfield

If you want your athletes to show maximum effort make them compete 🔥💪 Here's simple drill to improve their reaction, acceleration and direction change 🙌

Why I progress split squats → single-leg hops • Explosive power — builds force where jumping and sprinting actually start • Better acceleration — stronger first step and cleaner speed mechanics • Unilateral stability — fixes side-to-side imbalances • Full-body coordination — upper and lower body work as one • Injury resilience — stronger joints, better load tolerance • Vertical jump carryover — strength that transfers, not just looks good • Game-ready strength — single-leg power that shows up in sport Strength first. Then speed. Then plyometrics. CTA: 👉 DM “COACH” to train smart and progress injury-free #running #plyometrics #strengthandconditioning
