An AQI between 0–50 is considered Good, 51–100 is Satisfactory, 101–200 is Moderate, 201–300 is Poor, 301–400 is Very Poor, and 401–500 is Severe. Unfortunately, Delhi’s AQI often reaches the Very Poor or Severe category, especially between October and January, when weather conditions trap pollutants close to the ground. Several factors contribute to the high AQI levels in Delhi. One of the main causes is vehicular emissions from millions of cars, buses, and trucks on the roads. Industrial pollution, construction dust, and burning of crop stubble in nearby states like Punjab and Haryana also significantly increase pollution levels. During winter, low wind speed and temperature inversion prevent pollutants from dispersing, leading to thick smog covering the city. High AQI levels have serious health impacts on Delhi’s population.
