Our perfectly imperfect gallery wall 🤎 After moving hundreds of miles away from everything we’ve ever known, I needed a space that felt cozy and familiar. Something that felt like us. This year I really made it my mission to turn our house into a home. Not just decorate it, but fill it with pieces that mean something. Things that tell our story. This gallery wall is a mix of vintage and thrifted finds, a few new pieces, and little treasures I’ve collected over time. Some found on random errands, others pulled out from a dusty box tucked away in storage. It’s proof that you don’t have to buy everything at once or make it match perfectly. This is the easiest gallery wall hanging method in our opinions! Lay your art out on a surface with plenty of space and keep adjusting the layout until you love it. Then, cut pieces of craft paper out to be the same sizes/shapes as your art. Flip each art piece over and lay your craft paper on the back, making marks/holes where the nail holes should go. Using painters tape, tape the cut outs to the wall where you’ll hang your gallery wall. This way you can get a feel for the layout on the wall itself too! Once each cut out is taped up where the art will go, nail all your nails into the wall using the marked holes you made earlier in the paper cut outs. Last, hang all of your art! This is by far the smoothest and easiest way to make sure all of your art goes exactly where you want it to. Give it a try! ✨

Not a single picture on my gallery wall is even or level with another. There are so many ways to create gallery walls and they are all beautiful… but the lazy & frustration free way I do it is to NOT try and have any of the frames match up perfectly. That tactic also allows me to continuously add new items as I collect new ones when I travel or find treasures at antique shops. Here are the instructions for creating a collected charming vibe with a gallery wall: 1. DO NOT over think it but DO pay attention to balance. 2. Gather Your Artwork: Collect the pieces you want to include - Paintings, photographs, prints, posters, artwork your kids created for you, items that you love. They do not need to be a theme or collection or even coordinate if you’re going for a collected look. 3. “Plan” the layout if it helps you visualize things, but do not “over plan/think” it. Lay out your artwork on the floor to experiment with how to lay out at least the large pieces so can make sure it looks balanced. 4. Start by hanging the large pieces first (I start in the middle and work my way to the sides) then fill in with the medium pieces, followed by the small ones. Step back and look at how it’s shaping up after you hang each picture before you decide where to put the next one. Remember, it’s about filling in the space so use what fits. Don’t stress - Just hang the dang picture! The worst thing that’s gonna happen is you don’t like it and then you’re gonna move it! That’s okay 😉 5. Step back and look at it, move things around if it doesn’t look right. 6. Add to your wall as you collect new art or decorative items you love and let the wall take on a life of its own! 7. Mine is still very much a work in progress, but along the way I’ve picked up a few tips that may help you feel more confident getting started: 1. Begin by laying out the frames you already own before buying anything new. I started with 5. 2. Vary the sizes and shapes to create interest and movement. 3. Choose two or three elements to tie everything together, whether that’s color, subject matter, or overall style. 4. Keep the frames loosely cohesive. I leaned into metallic accents for consistency. 5. Include something personal or unexpected. I mixed in an 1890s English brass ornament and a few Wedgwood dishes. 6. Museum putty is your friend. It helps keep frames straight and secure. 7. Look beyond art stores. Calendars, vintage books, and printable downloads are great sources. 8. Shop secondhand for frames. Thrift shops and antique stores usually offer more character at better prices. 9. Give it time. A gallery wall evolves, and mine is still changing. If you have a blank wall that’s been waiting for the right moment, save this for when you’re ready to start creating something of your own.

I like that there’s tons of frame options to choose from.
