Final part in this series. This situation highlights the importance of knowing how to read an SDS and the chemicals you are using on your body. We need to hold these brands accountable and force them to do better although that does not absorb them from any damage, they have already (allegedly) caused. #nailsofinstagram #contactdermatitis #thegelbottlebiab

⚠️ Awareness Post A young girl came to me after wearing gel on her toenails for a few months. When the gel was removed, she noticed a dark discoloration on the nail, so she decided to get it checked. After I cleaned and examined the nail, we discovered a cyst under the nail. She has now had surgery on that toe and the tissue has been sent for testing. This is a reminder that gel or acrylic can look beautiful, but they can also hide problems underneath. If you notice: • dark discoloration • lifting nail • unusual changes in the nail plate ❗ Do NOT cover it with gel or acrylic. A good nail technician should always inform you if something doesn’t look right. Always check your nails after removing gel or acrylic. If something doesn’t look healthy — get it checked first. Your health is more important than pretty nails. 💚

Chemicals in nail gel polishes, methacrylates or HEMA, are a common cause of contact allergy presenting as rash on face, neck, chest or hands and sometimes involving loss of the nails. Gel nail allergy can occur suddenly even after years of at home and salon manicures. These chemicals can also cause worsening of asthma, and issues with getting dental or orthopedic surgeries in the future. Girls, read this before your next nail appointment 💅 We’re not against gel & acrylics. But constant refills without recovery time can lead to: • Nail plate damage • Fungal growth • Chronic brittleness • Allergic reactions If your natural nails are getting weaker each time… that’s not normal. Take breaks. Let them breathe. And if damage has already started, treat it early. Where are my recovering nail addicts at? This video is after one week without gel- dry, brittle and cracked I've been using acrylic/gel for years with intermittent breaks for my nail health (because I know the damage that can be done). I have recently decided it's not for me anymore so please help hold me accountable 🤣 Some of these products I already had on hand so here is what I'm using: Urea cream from the inkey list Glycolic acid @theordinary Slugging with @Pipettebaby balm Biotin supplements daily - I'm using @thornehealth Studies have shown that supplementing with biotin can help improve damaged nails. Also would recommend a glass nail file as opposed to traditional files. Follow for updates! 🐰Follow @dermbunny, for cruelty-free and vegan skincare recs from a Dermatology PA. I wish nail allergies weren’t becoming as common as they are, but the pattern is hard to ignore. What I’m seeing again and again is a combination of factors stacking on top of each other. Short-term, instant-result formulas that prioritize speed over long-term nail health. Lamps that claim high wattage but don’t actually cure products fully. Education coming in fragments instead of full understanding. And nails being constantly reworked without enough recovery time. None of these things alone automatically cause a problem. But together, they increase the risk of irritation, sensitivity, and allergic reactions over time. Healthy nails are not just about what you apply. They’re about how often you apply, how well things are cured, how product is removed, and how much time nails are given to recover. This video is part of a larger conversation inside our free How to Do Gel Nails at Home series on YouTube, where we focus on understanding instead of fear. Peeling off your acrylics or gels? Stop now! It damages the nail plate, exposes your nail bed to infections, and can even lead to permanent nail issues. Take breaks between sets to keep your nails strong and healthy. 💅 🎥: #NailCare #HealthyNails #NailHealth #DermTips #NailCareHacks #teawithmd
