Sebelumnya, perwakilan Palestina duduk di bagian belakang ruang sidang. Sementara dalam sidang ke-79, Duta Besar Palestina untuk PBB, Riyad Mansour duduk di meja yang bertuliskan ‘Negara Palestina’. “Ini bukan sekadar persoalan prosedural. Ini momen bersejarah bagi kami,” kata Duta Besar Mesir Osama Mahmoud Abdelkhalek dalam sidang tersebut. Saat ini, Palestina masih berstatus sebagai pengamat dan belum menjadi anggota penuh.
