My transcription of Gil Evans’ backgrounds to the bridge of “Last Night When We Were Young” from Kenny Burrell’s “Guitar Forms”. The way Gil deals with the harmonies of the bridge sounds almost like a new tune. He omits the melody + Kenny is soloing on top, but when you play the original melody along with the recording you’ll hear how all of it ties together. Let’s study ‘Petits Machins‘* by Miles Davis & Gil Evans from #fillesdekilimanjaro — a timeless masterpiece 🔮🔮 It’s so great to see how the band approaches the 9 bar solo form. Also, if you wait long enough, you’ll quickly see Gil Evans’ original chart for ELEVEN that I found years later. Transcribing this one was a real eye opener on many levels. I remember also taking other versions by #gilevans & #johnnycoles into account when i wrote it down years ago. Very helpful! Although, after hearing it with today’s ears, I would make some changes to the A section, the note (either D# or E) after the repeated Cs differs a little bit from what I wrote down years ago.
